Henry Cavill Used His Celebrity Girlfriend To Boost His Career?
Henry Cavill and Kaley Cuoco dated for less than two weeks in 2013, and many fans still think the whole thing was a PR stunt.
Considering that in the past decade he’s played — among other memorable roles — Geralt of Rivia, Sherlock Holmes, and Superman, it may seem strange that at one point fans thought Henry Cavill was dating a sitcom star as a PR stunt, but that’s exactly what many still believe. For less than two weeks in 2013, Cavill and Kaley Cuoco of The Big Bang Theory either had a whirlwind romance or just pretended to date to boost their profiles. Among those fans who believe in the latter, one of the most convincing pieces of evidence is that the pair shared the same PR agency.
As recalled by Nicki Swift, there are a lot of reasons to suspect that Henry Cavill and Kaley Cuoco’s brief pairing was more for the cameras than it was for the bedroom. Cuoco’s first social media clue that the two were dating was the star posing in front of a Man of Steel poster and urging her followers to go see it. In spite of a very brief time dating, the two of them were seen together in the kinds of public spaces celebrities tend to avoid unless they’re trying to be photographed.
Nicki Swift also points out that Kaley Cuoco would even later admit that it wasn’t until she dated Henry Cavill that paparazzi cameras became interested in her. Then there’s the fact that the year following her fling with Cavill, the sitcom star negotiated a $1 million per episode pay bump on The Big Bang Theory. So whether or not the relationship was real, it clearly helped out Cuoco’s career in very concrete ways.
There are also plenty of signs that what happened between them was genuine; albeit destined to be short-lived. Both Henry Cavill and Kaley Cuoco were just recently broken up with other partners — Cavill with Gina Carano and Cuoco with Bret Bollinger — when they met at a party in June 2013. Soon afterward, they would be described as being “in lust” after dating for only a few days.
Nicki Swift frames this situation as being both implausible and proof positive that Henry Cavill and Kaley Cuoco‘s relationship was a sham, which makes us wonder whether or not they’ve ever heard of the word “rebound.” If you’ve never — relatively soon after a break-up — fallen head-over-heels with someone only to just as quickly back out of things when it turned sour, then you must not have dated very extensively.
The site also uses, as proof of a sham, the fact that shortly after her break up with Henry Cavill, Cuoco began dating tennis pro Ryan Sweeting. Three months later Cuoco and Sweeting were engaged (and have since married and divorced).
Nicki Swift uses Cuoco’s quick turnaround to Sweeting as proof that what happened between her and Henry Cavill was a PR stunt, but if anything, doesn’t it make a stronger case that Cavill/Cuoco was for real? After all, if we assume that Cuoco and Sweeting were the genuine article (which, considering they eventually got married, seems likely), then what happened between them would seem to only prove that — as she did with Cavill — when it comes to romance, Cuoco moves pretty fast.
Regardless, neither Henry Cavill nor Kaley Cuoco are in positions to need any kind of similar stunt in the near future. We will say that even if their pairing was for real, we assume their shared PR agency didn’t exactly fight tooth, nail, and claw to stop the romance.
