Helen Mirren is a talented actress that has graced our screens for many years. Mirren has starred in successful films such as The Queen and Woman in Gold. However, one of her roles in a very well-known and popular movie franchise was something she really wanted and ended up begging Vin Diesel for. Namely, she begged for a spot in the Fast and Furious films. The actress had a list of reasons as to why being in the franchise was important to her, and also why it was a role that she was going to fight for.
Helen Mirren is known for her dramatic roles and her passionate performances as an actress in any role that she takes on. The Fast and Furious franchise is one of the most watched movie franchises, with well shot scenes and of course, action scenes while driving fast cars. The premise of the films is just one of the many aspects of the franchise that drew Mirren to want to have a role in the movie. Mirren told the Hollywood Reporter some of her reasons for wanting to desperately be in Fast and Furious. “I’d just never done anything like that before — one of those big, big movies. And, in my vanity, I just loved driving and really wanted to do my own driving in a fast car.” Of course, Mirren has starred in successful films before, but being in an exceptional movie franchise is always a little different.
In the interview with THR, Mirren said she always had loved stunts and action. And Fast and Furious is definitely one of those films that has both. Mirren said, “But I love the special effects world. And the stunt world.” But the big question is how did Mirren get such an amazing opportunity to enter the Fast and Furious world? Vin Diesel was the answer to her questions and dreams. The talented actress met Diesel at an event and she didn’t hold back. She told THR about how she approached Diesel. “I didn’t ask, I begged!” Mirren told Diesel how she loved the films and nearly begged for a role. “And I was shameless: “Oh God, I’d just love to be in one of your movies! Please let me be in it.”
Helen Mirren, with the help of Vin Diesel, joined the franchise. She was given the role of Queenie Shaw, the mother of Deckard, Owen, and Hattie Shaw. Her role was the criminal mother of the three Shaw boys. According to Screen Rant, other famous stars dipped their toes in the franchise such as Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, and Kurt Russell. But Vin Diesel took Helen Mirren’s plea to be in the franchise seriously, and with her successful career behind her, there was probably little doubt that she could pull off any role beautifully
“He found this great little role for me, which was perfect,” Helen Mirren told THR about Vin Diesel helping her out. And now, Mirren is the iconic Queenie in the blockbuster franchise. The actress has been in a number of projects, however, the Fast and Furious franchise seems to allow the actress to pursue her passion for all things action and of course, very fast cars.
