The Historical Fantasy Epic Series With Beautiful Art Style And Epic Fights
Heaven Official’s Blessing is the show that got me into Chinese animated films and books. This animated series has everything you could want, with hints of romance, drama, angst, and fighting. The story is intricate and the characters complex to the point they feel real. This is a show I think everyone should give a chance.
Heaven Official’s Blessing
Heaven Official’s Blessing follows the story of a god named Xie Lian as he ascends yet again from the human world to heaven. Wanting to help the common people and not able to get along well with most other gods, Xie Lian ends up solving a lot of problems in the human world.
There, he meets a suspicious character he quickly becomes friends with named San Lang, and the two go on missions together, uncovering several dark secrets of some of the other gods and more powerful ghosts.
Romance, Historical Fiction, And More
The show has supernatural, cultivation, romance, historical fiction, drama, and comedic elements blended together in one plot. Every episode reveals more about the main characters and their past without giving everything up. There’s always a little more to learn with every episode.
It’s easy to get swept up in Heaven Official’s Blessing and binge-watch all of the episodes in just a day or two because each one leaves you wanting just a little more.
Based On A Web Novel
Heaven Official’s Blessing is based on a web-novel-turned-book series of the same name by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu. She’s also the writer of Scum Villain’s Self-Saving System and The Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation, both of which were made into animated series as well, though not as popular as this one. The Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation also has a live-action adaptation called The Untamed.
With eight books and roughly 21 arcs within the story, there’s the potential for quite a few seasons. So far, the first two seasons have covered about two arcs each, so there’s the potential for seven seasons or more.
Remaining Unfinished?
Based on how long most series are nowadays, this would be a pretty rare situation. More than likely Heaven Official’s Blessing will remain unfinished, or some parts will be rushed. However, it would be pretty amazing if the animated show did fully cover the story in the books.
Despite not technically being an anime, as it’s a Chinese show, My Anime List does have it on the site. The first season has a score of 8.34 and the second has an 8.67.
Not Incredibly Popular?
Despite the high rating, it’s not incredibly popular, ranking #1573 on the popularity scale.
I’m a huge fan of this show and both of its seasons. Most of the time, I end up reading books first and then watching the shows.
However, before I watched the show, I’d never heard of Heaven Official’s Blessing or the author. Being the impatient person I am, I ended up reading the books shortly after the first season came out.

REVIEW SCORE
Heaven Official’s Blessing was beautifully adapted. Though it skips over some of the more intimate parts of the story, the plots are almost identical, and the characters are well-developed. If you’ve read the books but are scared to watch the show, I think you’ll find that the series is handled with care.
If you’re as hyped about this show as I am, you’re in luck. Both seasons of Heaven Official’s Blessing are available to watch on Crunchyroll.
