HBO care bears

It looks like HBO is making sure one of its best comedy series sticks around for another season. A Black Lady Sketch Show just finished up season three and HBO has made it official that the show will be picked up for a fourth season. Robin Thede is the creator, showrunner, and one of the stars of the show.

Alongside Thede, A Black Lady Sketch Show also stars Ashley Nicole Black, Gabrielle Dennis, and Skye Townsend. The half-hour comedy sketch series had a bevy of guest stars in its third season, with Ava DuVernay, David Alan Grier, Michael Ealy, Daphne Reid, Wayne Brady, Tommy Davidson, and Raven-Symoné all making appearances. The fourth season is sure to bring us plenty of laughs and guest stars too.

It wouldn’t be surprising if there were many more seasons of A Black Lady Sketch Show to come. As long as the creators are willing and HBO is happy with the continued quality, it definitely seems like there is more to come from the show. A Black Lady Sketch Show has received plenty of accolades and award attention since it started in 2019. In 2021 it ended up winning the Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Picture Editing for Variety Programming. It has also been nominated for various Emmys in the past years. It’s likely only a matter of time before it nabs some more trophies from TV’s biggest award ceremony.

A Black Lady Sketch Show is carving its way into TV history as one of the first sketch shows written, produced by, and starring black women. In addition to Thede producing, Issa Rae also produces along with Dave Becky and Jonathan Berry of 3 Arts Entertainment and Tony Hernandez and Brooke Posch of Jax Media. In addition to the awards acclaim, A Black Lady Sketch Show also is critically acclaimed, with a 100% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Although pulling triple-duty on A Black Lady Sketch Show has undoubtedly taken up a lot of Robin Thede’s time, she also managed to find the time to play a part in the upcoming movie The Drop. The Drop is a comedy about a married couple facing a marriage test after one of them drops a baby during a tropical wedding. The movie also stars Utkarsh Ambudkar, Susan Sullivan, Jillian Bell, Anna Konkle, Aparna Nancherla, Joshua Leonard, Elisha Henig, Jermaine Fowler, Jennifer Lafleur, Gene Farber, Monnae Michaell, and Bryan Ross. Sarah Adina Smith directs and co-wrote the script with Joshua Leonard. The movie is completed, with a release date likely to be announced for sometime in 2022.

If you’ve missed out on A Black Lady Sketch Show so far, there is plenty of time to catch up and check out all the skits and laughs from the first three seasons. The show is streaming on HBO Max, which is where the fourth season will also be available when it’s finished. Check it out for yourself if you want to see an Emmy-award-winning comedy and one of HBO’s freshest comedy hits.
