Hawkeye’s Hailee Steinfeld Cast In Upcoming Marvel Movie?
Is Hawkeye's Hailee Steinfeld on her way to Marvel's big screen?
This article is more than 2 years old
Now that Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop is a definitive hit among Marvel Cinematic Universe fans, a new rumor indicates that she may play an important role in shaping a new team of young heroes similar to The Avengers. Since her debut in the Disney+ series Hawkeye, fans already can’t seem to get enough of Steinfeld’s adaptation of the equally popular archer character from the comic books. That’s why it makes perfect sense for her to cross over into one of the franchise’s film properties to possibly help establish the Young Avengers in Ant-Man 3.
Before we get too ahead of ourselves here, the rumor stems from the Midgard Times, which reports that Hailee Steinfeld was spotted at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire, the UK on the set of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. The film, which is otherwise known as Ant-Man 3, is due to hit theaters in July of 2023. Recently, the outlet reports that the Kate Bishop actress was on set, which would have huge implications for the future.
It’s true Hailee Steinfeld was in the area at the time to promote the premiere of Hawkeye, so it could have been just a casual visit to the set of another Marvel Cinematic Universe property. However, the studio keeps things pretty thoroughly under wraps, so it’s unlikely one of its stars would be there without actually being in the film. So, our money is on the idea that it was a top-secret bid to film a cameo or perhaps even a larger role within the film.
There is some comic book precedent for Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop to be in Ant-Man’s world. ComicBookMovie notes that Freaky actress Kathryn Newton will be playing an older Cassie Lang who, along with Kate Bishop, are both part of the Young Avengers team in the comic books. Other members include Elijah Bradley, who was introduced in Falcon and the Winter Soldier, as well as Wanda Maximoff’s kids, Billy and Tommy, who made their debut in WandaVision. Other members include Iron Heart; who Variety reports will be introduced in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever played by actress Dominique Thorne before getting her own Disney+ series, as well as Ms. Marvel and Miss America who will be making their upcoming debuts in The Marvels and Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness respectively. That only leaves Hulkling and a ton of runway with shows like She-Hulk and the Secret Invasion series between now and when Ant-Man 3 hits theaters in 2023.
Admittedly this is a lot of inference and looking ahead. That said, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is indeed moving fast these days. With Spider-Man: No Way Home promising to expand the canon into the infinite multiverse and with countless TV shows coming to Disney+, it seems there are very few corners of Marvel Comics canon that will go unexplored. The question now is where fan-favorites like Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop will fall into place? It seems that recruiting Scott Lang’s daughter to be a Young Avenger may very well be a good place to start. However, fans will just have to see what becomes of Kate Bishop in the next few episodes of Hawkeye first.
