Harry Styles is set to star alongside Florence Pugh in a film that many people can’t stop talking about: Don’t Worry Darling. The film is the sophomore directing outing for actress Olivia Wilde and looks quite good. Styles plays Jack Chambers, and Pugh takes on the role of his wife, Alice. The film looks to be like a standard suburban film set in the 1950s, but Alice starts to notice things are not what they seem. Her character has a song trigger in the film, which sets off themes by the tone of the song and the lyrics. This song is hummed by Alice, played on the radio, and was featured in the trailer’s score. Apparently, Styles wrote the song in a ridiculously short time. It took the man five minutes to come up with the piano demo that ended up in the film.

For those who might not know, Harry Styles is a world-renowned singer and songwriter, who is now testing his acting abilities. He has been given quite a few great roles. He starred in Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk, Marvel’s Eternals, and now stars in Don’t Worry Darling. He is certainly a talented man, and when approached about writing a melody for his newest film, he obviously jumped at that chance. He spoke about creating the song for Alice in an interview. According to Styles, “I wanted something that could be both sweet and creepy, entirely dependent on the context. I remember first playing it on the piano, and it had a sort of homemade nursery rhyme feel to it. Applied to the different moments in the film, I think it takes on a couple of different lives — I hope.” The idea for the song is that it evolves as the story evolves as well. The mystery of what Alice uncovers will match the tone and lyrics delivered by the end of the film.

For anyone who has not quite seen the trailer yet, Don’t Worry Darling has the makings of The Stepford Wives but in a far creepier way. Alice is meant to play the submissive wife to Jack, but she starts to wonder what is this place that the pair have moved into. We love films that hide a horrible truth, and from the looks of the trailer, there is something far more nefarious happening in the film. Joining Harry Styles and Florence Pugh are Olivia Wilde, Gemma Chan, KiKi Layne, Nick Kroll, and Chris Pine. The all-star cast is sure to make this film one that is talked about for months on end.

Don’t Worry Darling is set to premiere on September 23rd in theaters and will see Harry Styles in a more focal starring role. Most of the films he has been a part of have seen him as part of an ensemble cast. Don’t Worry Darling does have a bit of an ensemble cast, but it appears that Alice and Jack’s relationship is going to be the main plot point that hooks audiences in. This is especially true since Alice starts noticing that things don’t quite add up in this new neighborhood. This new mystery thriller looks good, and we can’t wait to see what the film is all about. Also, be sure to listen in for this “trigger” song that Alice hears, as it was expertly written by Styles in only five minutes. That is quite impressive.
