Harrison Ford has played Han Solo, Rick Deckard, and Indiana Jones. He has no shortage of iconic and well-known roles under his belt. He’s also been in some movies that were easier to have missed. One of those that many haven’t seen is now being newly discovered by Netflix users. Sabrina sees Harrison Ford as Linus Larrabee.
The romantic comedy first hit theaters in 1995 and sees Harrison Ford playing an uptight character opposite Greg Kinnear as his playboy brother. Harrison Ford, as Linus Larrabee, is running a business and puts that before any sort of romantic relationship. His work on the family business funds his brother’s life. Greg Kinnear, as David Larrabee, is living the high life. He sleeps around with multiple women, never works, and doesn’t have many serious moments of concern in his life. Greg Kinner’s David Larrabee is engaged to Elizabeth Tyson, a doctor, and a billionaire. This impending marriage is ensuring a business deal for the family, and that relationship is part of what helps David get away with how he behaves. He may not be helping run the family business, but his future marriage is earning them a lot of money. Then in walks Sabrina Fairchild, played by Julia Ormond.
Sabrina is the daughter of the Larrabee family’s chauffeur. She grew up with a crush on David Larrabee (Greg Kinnear). After a recent trip to Paris, she has returned home with a more sophisticated look. David Larrabee may have ignored her during her entire childhood, but now, as an engaged man, he has his eye on her. For Harrison Ford’s Linus Larrabee, this is a huge business problem. If his brother cancels his engagement, the business deal between the two families would be cancelled, costing the family a billion dollars.
Harrison Ford’s character comes up with a solution: he will gain the romantic interest of Sabrina, thereby keeping his brother away from her and keeping the family’s business dealings on the right path. Along the way, he accidentally falls for her. The problem is, this isn’t how he sees himself. He isn’t a romantic. He will never fall in love. And yet, there she is.

In 1995, not a lot of people saw Sabrina. The Harrison Ford movie was a remake of a 1954 movie of the same name. With a fair amount of star power adding to the budget, the film cost an estimated $50 to $58 million to make. Ultimately the studio earned back $87 million at the global box office. To be a success at the box office, movies usually hope to earn three times back their budget. Despite the mediocre box office return, Sabrina did decently with critics. The general consensus on Rotten Tomatoes is that the remake didn’t really improve on the original film, but the cast did well enough that it makes it a pleasant enough movie. It currently holds an audience score of 64%, which is respectable for an older romantic comedy on the platform. It frequently appears on lists of underrated Harrison Ford movies.
Harrison Ford has had one of the best acting careers around. He’s gotten to star in romantic comedies, action movies, thrillers, and some of the best science fiction around. The actor is now 79 years old, and he’s still being asked to return to some of his most iconic franchises. He recently returned to Star Wars with The Force Awakens, and then Blade Runner 2049. More recently, he’s been filming Indiana Jones 5. The actor did suffer an injury while on set for the action-packed sequel, but has since recovered and gotten back to production.
At the moment, he hasn’t agreed to any future roles. However, if people are expecting him to stop acting, or to take on slower parts, his recent decisions don’t seem to say that’s in the cards. His roles in his classic franchises and in new takes on old classics like The Call of the Wild are seeing him in physically demanding roles and rising up to the challenge. He may be picking up another action film or two yet. For now, fans can catch him on Netflix in some of his classics, like the overlooked Sabrina.
