The annual Star Wars Celebration is taking place in Anaheim, California right now, and as such, plenty of news has already been breaking on the Star Wars front. However, Harrison Ford showed up to the celebration, much like he always does, but this time to drop a bomb on the lucky patrons of the event. The world has been given the very first look at Ford returning as his most iconic character, and no that isn’t Han Solo, it’s Indiana Jones. The world was gifted the first image of the man back in his hat and whip ensemble and release date. You can see the image below:
Hats off to the art department for putting this image together. Harrison Ford looks epic in his most iconic hat. Also, the backdrop of being in some sort of dark ruins with the light cascading over him. This is beautiful. On top of the above image that is sure to set the internet on fire, we have also been given a release date for the film. Indiana Jones 5 will be coming out on June 30, 2023. Though we are still having to wait for another year, at least we get to see Ford return to this character period. The man is 79 years old. This is to be his final farewell to the character, much like his final farewell with Han Solo happened in Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens.
Indiana Jones 5 is going to be quite the epic, as Harrison Ford is being joined by an all-star cast that includes Antonia Banderas, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen, Boyd Holbrook, and Shaunette Renée Wilson. The film is being produced by Steven Spielberg, Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall, and Simon Emanuel. James Mangold is directing the film with Jez Butterworth, John-Henry Butterworth, and Mangold all writing the script together. This is a lot of high-level talent that is attached to this sendoff.
Harrison Ford is a massive part of the Star Wars universe, so it makes perfect sense that he would crash the celebration. However, it is unlikely that anyone in that crowd thought he would be bringing him some details about Indiana Jones 5. Though the cast and crew behind the film have been revealed, we still don’t know much about the plot of the film. One thing is for sure, we have to see Indy throw out one of his infamous right cross punches. It must happen for nostalgia purposes. Disney has been fantastic at keeping their secrets mostly unspoiled, so we likely won’t know much about the plot of the film until the inevitable trailer drops.
Indiana Jones 5 will premiere in June of 2023. Harrison Ford will presumably say goodbye to his most iconic character. Han Solo died at the hands of his dark side corrupted son, and that moment made everyone weep. We aren’t saying that Indiana Jones must die to pass on the torch, but this could be another gut-wrenching moment for fans across the world. Hopefully, Indy just gets to retire without succumbing to some ultra-heroic moment by sacrificing himself for the greater good. Either way, we can’t wait to see it.
