See Harrison Ford In First Look At His Marvel Character
Harrison Ford is nattily dressed as the MCU's new Thunderbolt Ross.
If you’ve found yourself wondering when you’d see some still shots of Harrison Ford for his upcoming Marvel role, we finally have some photo evidence on Instagram. Ford was brought on board to take over the role of Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross after the passing of William Hurt in 2022, according to Deadline. Though Hurt delivered a powerhouse portrayal of Ross in several previous MCU films (The Incredible Hulk, Captain America: Civil War, and Black Widow to name a few), Phase Five of the MCU has brought Ford on board to carry the torch into new territory as President of the United States in Captain America: New World Order.
Though, if we had to weigh in, Harrison Ford’s portrayal of Marvel’s Thunderbolt will be a far cry from the iconic brown fedora we’re used to seeing in the Indiana Jones franchise. Change in apparel aside, it’s safe to say that the 80-year-old actor is still looking sharp in a cauliflower blue dress shirt, with a darker blue tie that’s tied off in a classic four-in-hand knot. He also looks very serious, and if the pictures are evidence of anything, it’s the fact that Ford will deliver the goods with his antagonistic arrival to the Oval Office in New World Order.
We’ll see Harrison Ford rising the ranks to President of the United States in the 34th Marvel film, which shows us that Ross is a man of purpose. In other words, Ford is picking up where Hurt left off after his transition from U.S. Army General to U.S. Secretary of State in Civil War. Ford’s portrayal of Ross in New World Order will only raise the stakes for the Avengers as his influence expands.
2019’s Avengers: Endgame showed a form of peacekeeping on Ross’s part when he attended Iron Man’s funeral. Though we’re not 100 percent certain that Ross has redeemed himself in the form of deciding to no longer antagonize the Avengers, or if he was simply just putting his differences aside to pay his respects. We’ll just have to wait and witness Harrison Ford’s contribution to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Ross to see how the story will play out in New World Order.
Though this is Harrison Ford’s introduction to the Marvel franchise, a follow-up film, simply titled Thunderbolts is currently in pre-production and slated for a release sometime in 2024. It’s safe to say that the dynamic between Ross and Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson, who has taken the reins as Captain America after being appointed by Steve Rogers, will have some natural tension that will work out famously on the big screen.
At the end of the day, Harrison Ford is no stranger to massive productions, and his contribution to the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be legendary. Though the Star Wars alum has some massive shoes to fill in light of Hurt’s passing, there’s no doubt in our minds that he knows what he’s doing. Production for New World Order started earlier in March and is well underway, and If everything goes according to plan, production should wrap up sometime in June, with an intended release date of May 3, 2024.
