Harrison Ford Is Confused About What Marvel Character He’s Playing?
Harrison Ford played coy when asked if he would appear at the Red Hulk in Captain America: Brave New World.
Harrison Ford recently addressed the rumored appearance of Red Hulk, the alter ego of Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross in Captain America: Brave New World. Speaking to ComicBook.com, the actor claimed not to know who the character was. “What is the Red Hulk?” he said when asked about Bruce Banner’s counterpart’s presence in the film.
After a brief explainer about the Red Hulk’s comic book history, Harrison Ford said he “may or… may not” appear in Brave New World. While the Indiana Jones star didn’t completely dismiss the possibility, Marvel producer Nate Moore was also hesitant to confirm or deny the character’s inclusion when asked about Red Hulk in late 2022.
“I mean, I think you’re going to have to wait and see. You know what I mean? But Harrison Ford, we couldn’t be more excited,” Moore said during an interview on the Phase Zero podcast. “Obviously, when you have Han Solo or Indiana Jones involved in your movie, it just raises the game. So, we’re excited to see [Anthony] Mackie and Harrison Ford in scenes together. I think it’s going to be fantastic.”
Even if Harrison Ford’s Thunderbolt Ross doesn’t turn into the Red Hulk in Captain America: Brave New World, he will still have incredible power at his disposal as the President of the United States. Marvel boss Kevin Feige recently confirmed the news, saying, “Ross [will be] the President of the United States in the film.”
Feige also hinted that a unique dynamic exists between President Ross and Sam Wilson due to their shared history. However, in this film, audiences will see a new relationship between Captain America and the President of the United States. Ross will be stepping into the shoes of Matthew Ellis (portrayed by William Sadler), who previously served as U.S. President in several Marvel movies.
Similarly, Ross is also undergoing a transition as Harrison Ford takes over the role from the late William Hurt, who portrayed the character in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk. Additionally, Ford has committed to at least one more Marvel movie after Captain America: Brave New World. He will also be portraying Thunderbolt Ross in Thunderbolts.
Harrison Ford recently explained his decision to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe by saying the experience is unlike anything he’s done in his career. So he found the prospect appealing. “I thought, ‘Everybody else seems to be having a great time.’ I watch all these terrific actors having a good time,” he said. “I like doing something different and pleasing people with it. So I’ll try a piece of that,” they added.
Captain America: Brave New World is the fourth installment in the Captain America film series and a continuation of the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The movie is directed by Julius Onah from a script by Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson. Anthony Mackie reprises his role as Sam Wilson/Captain America alongside Harrison Ford, Danny Ramirez, Tim Blake Nelson, and Liv Tyler.
Captain America: Brave New World will hit theaters on July 26, 2024. Meanwhile, Harrison Ford returns as the titular adventurer in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny on June 30. The story sees Jones team up with his goddaughter Helena Shaw to secure a valuable artifact. Directed by James Mangold, the movie is set to be Ford’s last outing as the iconic archeologist.
