Harrison Ford Refuses To Give Up Acting At 81
Harrison Ford says that, even at 81, he has no plans to retire from acting.
Harrison Ford has been a Hollywood superstar for a long time, and he’s not ready to quit acting anytime soon. Variety reported on Ford’s interview on CNN and Max’s Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace? where he was asked if he plans on retiring in the near future. Ford replied, “I don’t,” adding I don’t do well when I don’t have work,” and “I love to work.”
Harrison Ford further elaborated on what continues to drive him to act past the age of 80, saying, “It is the people you get to work with” and “The intensity and the intimacy of collaboration.
It’s clear that Ford still loves acting, and it’s great to know that we’ll get to see plenty more performances from the beloved actor in the near future. In fact, we’ll get to see him reprise one of his oldest roles one last time when Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny hits theaters on June 30.
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny will see Harrison Ford completing his run as the adventuring archeologist as he seeks out a legendary dial that could change the course of history.
The James Mangold-directed entry to the long-running film series will also star Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelson, Antonio Banderas, Boyd Holbrook, and returning franchise favorites John Rhys-Davies and Karen Allen. Hopefully, the film can provide a satisfying ending to one of Ford’s best characters.
While Harrison Ford is hanging up the whip and hat as Indy, he should hit the ground running again on some of his other projects very soon. He’s scheduled to return for the second season of both his Apple TV+ show Shrinking and his Yellowstone prequel 1923 once the WGA strike is resolved.
And while you might think that Ford would be done with massive Disney-owned franchises after Star Wars and Indiana Jones, you’d be wrong because he’s set to make his MCU debut next year.
Harrison Ford will be replacing the late William Hurt as the character Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross in both Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts. Thaddeus Ross is also known for being the Red Hulk in the comics, which is a side of the character William Hurt never got to explore before his passing.
Rumors are saying that we could see Ross finally make that transformation when Ford’s version of the character is brought to the screen.
While it’s entirely possible that Harrison Ford will only play Ross for Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts, the MCU isn’t quick to get rid of fan-favorite characters. We could very well see Ford join the cast of future MCU movies as well. Until then, it’s exciting to see what Disney has planned for Ford’a characters in these upcoming films.
Captain America: Brave New World is currently scheduled for July 26, 2024, release date and will be Anthony Mackie’s first film as Captain America after his character took up the shield at the end of The Falcon and the Winter Solider. Meanwhile, Thunderbolts will follow a group of villains and anti-heroes who are recruited for a dangerous mission for the government. Thunderbolts is currently scheduled to come out on December 20, 2024.
