According to a recent write-up in Deadline, Adam Sandler’s upcoming Happy Gilmore 2 has nabbed one of the highest-charting recording artists in the world for an on-screen role. The artist in question, Bad Bunny, is best known as the vocalist behind such hit records as “Perro Negro,” “Sensualidad,” and “I Like It,” with Cardi B. Happy Gilmore 2 is a long-awaited legacy sequel to Sandler’s classic 1996 sports comedy Happy Gilmore, and currently has no projected release date.

No Word On Bad Bunny’s Role

Per Deadline, production for Happy Gilmore 2 has just kicked off, with a wide array of new and returning stars on pace to take front and center roles. For now, there’s no word on what character Bad Bunny will play, or if he’ll simply be portraying a fictionalized version of himself, as Bob Barker famously did in the 1996 original.

Likewise, we are unsure if the vocalist will take a starring role as a main character, or if he will simply show up for a brief cameo appearance.

The Cast

Happy Gilmore 2 is expected to have many cameos from big names in sports and entertainment, including Kansas City Chiefs tight end and boyfriend to Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce.

Original Happy Gilmore stars Julie Bowen and Christopher McDonald are attached to reprise their roles nearly 30 years after first starring as Virginia Venit and Shooter McGavin, respectively, alongside Sandler’s leading performance as the eponymous golf prodigy.

Though Bad Bunny is known primarily for his work in music, the Grammy Award winner has demonstrated his ability to embody a role in a number of critically acclaimed projects.

Bad Bunny’s Other Acting Work

Before signing on to appear in Happy Gilmore 2, Bad Bunny held significant placements in films and television projects including Bullet Train, Cassandro, Narcos: Mexico, and more.

The Latin singer has also acted live for massive crowds as a fictionalized version of himself at many professional wrestling events such as WrestleMania 39, WWE Raw, and WWE Smackdown. Bad Bunny is also expected to appear in a forthcoming crime thriller from The Whale director Darren Aronofsky titled Caught Stealing.

The Director

Workaholics co-creator Kyle Newacheck has been tapped to direct Happy Gilmore 2 as a Netflix original, based on a script from Adam Sandler and Tim Herlihy, who previously collaborated on the screenplay for the first film back in 1996.

The news of Bad Bunny’s casting comes as the global megastar comes fresh off his 46-date world tour, to the tune of more than $200 million in revenue.

While the artist may not be considered as big as Beyoncé or Taylor Swift in the United States, Bad Bunny is one of the top recording artists on the globe, and has a particularly fervent following in many sections of Latin America.

More News To Come

Clearly, it was an incredibly prudent move to add Bad Bunny to Happy Gilmore 2‘s roster of on-screen talent, since the singer is beloved by so many fans in the international market.

Netflix has been making an effort to expand its digital borders in recent years, introducing many foreign language films and television shows to American audiences and vice versa.
