Ted Lasso Star Joins Ryan Gosling’s New Movie
Ted Lasso star Hannah Waddingham is joining Ryan Gosling's The Fall Guy.
The reimagined movie of the classic 1980s Lee Majors series, The Fall Guy, is picking up steam when it comes to casting. While we’ve known that Ryan Gosling, Emily Blunt, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Stephanie Hsu were set to lead the feature, Deadline has announced that Ted Lasso star Hannah Waddingham has scored a goal and nabbed herself a place on the project’s call sheet. Most recently seen in Hocus Pocus 2, Waddingham’s addition to The Fall Guy comes alongside her role in the Chris Pratt-led Garfield movie which is now in production.
While Hannah Waddingham’s role is being kept top secret, we do know who the other actors will be playing. As for Ryan Gosling, he’ll star as the titular stuntman with Emily Blunt playing his ex-girlfriend and the makeup artist on his current project. Aaron Taylor-Johnson stars as the leading man who Gosling’s character is doubling for with Stephanie Hsu joining as his assistant.
While we may not know who Hannah Waddingham will be playing, we do know that we’re in for a high-action treat in the series-turned-movie reboot with Bullet Train director David Leitch standing at the helm of the production. The story will follow Gosling’s stuntman who’s finding himself more than a little burnt out by his career choice when he’s given his next job: to work as the body double for an actor he once frequently collaborated with before being fired. But, when the actor goes missing, all eyes turn to the stuntman as the last hope to track him down.
While she’s had a long career in television, film, and theater, it was through Apple TV+’s smash hit, Ted Lasso, that Hannah Waddingham became a household name. In the Emmy-winning series, which is likely ending after its upcoming third season, Waddingham plays Rebecca Welton, the owner of AFC Richmond. Her character develops a close friendship (after initially planning to use him for revenge) with the titular coach, played by Jason Sudeikis, with whom she works closely throughout the series.
Game of Thrones fans will certainly recognize the face of Hannah Waddingham who played Septa Unella. While she may have only appeared in eight episodes, she made her time on the series count and somehow made all of us feel bad for Lena Headey’s Cersei Lannister. She also holds down a recurring role on Netflix’s hit series, Sex Education, where she stars alongside Asa Butterfield and Gillian Anderson.
Most recently, Hannah Waddingham conjured her way into the world of the Sanderson Sisters in the Hocus Pocus reboot, aptly titled Hocus Pocus 2. Through a flashback scene at the beginning of the film, audiences discovered that the witchy sisters received their magical book from Waddingham’s character, who was a witch long before them. The movie has been an absolute smash for Disney, driving up its viewership and completely leaving the possibility of a threequel on the table.
Just like in The Fall Guy, Hannah Waddingham’s character reveal for the upcoming Garfield movie is also being kept tightly under wraps. In a killer cast, the actress will be heard alongside Chris Pratt, Samuel L. Jackson, Nicholas Hoult, Ving Rhames, Cecily Strong, and Bowen Yang. As of right now, no release date for The Fall Guy has been set.
