As the Marvel Cinematic Universe begins to wrap up its Phase Four onslaught of films and television series, audiences are eagerly awaiting what’s in store for their favorite characters. Disney+ will soon be unveiling She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, starring Tatiana Maslany and Mark Ruffalo. Theater-going fans will finally get to witness the sequel to Black Panther entitled Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the first appearance of the character following the untimely death of actor Chadwick Boseman. But the pièce de résistance of Phase Four might just be The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, which debuts during the holiday season later this year. Now, it appears audiences are getting their first look at the special via social media.

In the recently released images to Twitter, LEGO will be selling an advent calendar just in time for the holidays to celebrate the release of The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special on Disney+. According to a report by CBR, some major plot points of the special may be confirmed by the images as many of the characters are included in the set, including Vin Diesel’s Groot decorated like a Christmas tree. Benicio del Toro’s character of the Collector appears to be returning to the franchise for his first appearance since Avengers: Infinity War. Also included in the LEGO advent calendar looks to be Rocket the Raccoon (voiced by Bradley Cooper) with a wrench and Chris Pratt’s character Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord, riding a sled.
Not showing in the images on the Twitter post are Drax, Gamora, and Nebula. However, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, and Karen Gillan have all been confirmed to appear in The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, according to pictures from the set while filming the special on Marvel.com. The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special will mark the conclusion of the MCU’s Phase Four at the end of 2022, leading into a slew of movies and series marking the beginning of Phase Five, which starts almost immediately in 2023. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania starring Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly kicks off in February, followed by Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in May 2023. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 appears to be the last in the series of films featuring a bulk of the Guardians cast.
The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special will begin to wrap up the arcs of characters director James Gunn established in the 2014 film that started the franchise. The special will lead directly into Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which is the final film Gunn will take part in with the MCU (at least with the Guardians). Actor Will Poulter is confirmed to join the ensemble cast as Adam Warlock in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and may show his face in The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. Poulter was recently nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for his work in the Hulu miniseries Dopesick.
