Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

We finally got the trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and it was well worth the wait. You get to see the Guardians in their classic blue and red suits from the comics, baby Rocket, swole Groot, a glimpse of Will Poulter’s Adam Warlock, and even Drax knocking down a toddler and hoping to kill “one stupid guy that no one loves.” In short, it’s everything fans have been hoping for and more.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will mark the ending of this iteration of the Guardians team and it will also be the end of James Gunn’s illustrious tenure working in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Along with James Gunn returning to write and direct, the film will also see the return of Chris Pratt as Star-Lord/Peter Quill, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax, Pom Klementieff as Mantis, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Vin Diesel as Groot, and Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon. New faces will be introduced too, including Will Poulter’s Adam Warlock, Chukwudi Iwuji’s High Evolutionary, and Maria Baklova as Cosmo (after her brief introduction in the Holiday Special).

The trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 seems like classic James Gunn, mixing in plenty of humor amidst the emotional moments. There’s no doubt that there are going to be some scenes that tug at the heartstrings, especially with the movie promising to give us more of Rocket’s tragic backstory. It’s going to be interesting to see how all of these elements are tied together while also putting a neat bow on the trilogy that was started in 2014.

Fortunately for fans who can’t wait to see more of the Guardians in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, we were recently gifted with The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special which saw Drax and Mantis teaming up to give Kevin Bacon to Peter Quill for Christmas. Although the special didn’t radically change anything in the MCU, it did have some cool reveals and it was a hilarious addition to the Christmas movie canon. It’s definitely worth your time if you want a more lighthearted way to spend time with these characters before the undoubtedly heavier story in the upcoming threequel.

It’s also one of the last times (at least for now) that you can see a James Gunn MCU movie. As mentioned, after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, it’s unlikely we’ll see too much more Gunn content in the MCU. It would be pretty difficult for him to work out, considering he and Peter Safran are now essentially the co-Kevin Feiges of DC Films.

You’ll be able to find out what happens to the Guardians when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 hits theaters on May 5, 2023. Until then, you can check out Black Panther: Wakanda Forever in theaters now, Antman and the Wasp: Quantumania in February, and watch the Guardians trailer on repeat to catch all the little details. You can also watch the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special on Disney+.
