Guardians Of The Galaxy 3 Just Gave Us Baby Rocket, The New Baby Yoda?
Promotional art for Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 3 shows Rocket as an adorable junior version of himself.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 will conclude James Gunn’s run in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with what promises to be a very emotional journey that will likely result in the death of at least one beloved character. It also seems that Gunn is raising the cuteness stake of his franchise by introducing Baby Rocket, the pint-sized version of Bradley Cooper’s irascible character that we have all come to know and love. RealD, the film-projection technology company, has unveiled some promotional art featuring Baby Rocket, and it is pretty impressively adorable.
The image from RealD 3D shows Baby Rocket as he appears in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, which is to say a smaller, cuter version of the cybernetic and genetically enhanced bounty hunter seen in the MCU so far. While this version of Rocket appears to be unclothed (except for his bountiful fur), discerning eyes can note that he appears to be wearing some kind of high-tech collar. He is also pointing at a chalkboard covered in mathematical formulas, giving the character the vibe of a child in school.
However, it seems that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 will involve Rocket’s actual, very painful origins, which will likely not be all that cute. It is also notable that beneath the title of the movie on the chalkboard, Rocket appears to have written “I didn’t ask for any of this,” which can be assumed to be a reference to the character’s iconic speech from the first Guardians movie, in which he tearfully (and angrily) confessed that “Well, I didn’t ask to get made! I didn’t ask to be torn apart and put back together over and over and turned into some little monster!”
It seems that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 will explore exactly how Rocket was created by the High Evolutionary (Chukwudi Iwuji) in his quest to develop more advanced forms of life. Unfortunately for Baby Rocket, it appears the process was extremely torturous, so we’re likely going to get some very painful scenes of this adorable cuddly little guy in the upcoming movie.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 will co-star Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Zoe Saldana, and the voices of Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel. The movie will also introduce Will Poulter as Adam Warlock, a cosmic being in Marvel Comics who will apparently have an adversarial role to the Guardians, at least at first.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 has the responsibility of wrapping up one of the most beloved franchises in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so it sure seems like Disney is bringing out the big cute guns to compete with the like of The Mandalorian’s Grogu aka Baby Yoda. If the company could have a cute baby character and not saddle them with a traumatic origin story, that would be nice.
