Friends Star Headlining Goosebumps Season 2
Goosebumps is getting some well-known star power for season 2. Friends alum David Schwimmer is leading the cast this time around for the Disney+ anthology series.
David Schwimmer Coming To Goosebumps
The series is based on author R.L Stine’s bestselling Scholastic series. It’s an anthology, so each season features a new story, setting and cast.
Deadline reports that for Goosebumps season 2, David Schwimmer will play Anthony, a former botany professor and divorced parent of teenage twins who has his hands full juggling the custody of his kids for the summer and looking after an aging parent.
It’s interesting to note here that for Goosebumps season 2 David Schwimmer is playing a former botany professor, when he was also a professor in his most famous role; Ross Geller on Friends.
Goosebumps Season 2
Getting back to Goosebumps season 2, it will follow the teenage twins as they investigate a mystery. They find themselves involved in the story of four teenagers who mysteriously vanished in 1994.
Along with David Schwimmer, Ana Ortiz, from Ugly Betty, has also been cast as a series regular. Ortiz will play Jen, a detective who experienced a tragic event involving her friends in adolescence.
No official release date has been given. Goosebumps season 2 was given the green light in February.
A Streaming Hit
The first season of Goosebumps premiered on October 13, 2023. It was Friday the 13th and just in time for Halloween.
According to streaming aggregator JustWatch, Goosebumps was the third most watched television series across all platforms in the United States during the week of October 16-22. It’s not surprising Goosebumps season 2 was greenlit.
David Schwimmer’s Roles
Aside from the roles already mentioned, David Schwimmer is known for his portrayal of the late Robert Kardashian in The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story.
Schwimmer was nominated for an Emmy for his role. The actor was also in Steven Soderbergh’s The Laundromat and he’ll next be seen in the indie feature Little Death, produced by Oscar nominee Darren Aronofsky.
Goosebumps Books
Goosebumps season 2, and all the TV and film adaptations are thanks to the series of horror novels penned by R.L Stine, beginning in 1992.
They’ve garnered both critical and commericial success. The Goosebumps books have sold more than 400 million copies globally in 35 languages, becoming the second best-selling book series in history, behind Harry Potter.
While Goosebumps season 2 has David Schwimmer, season 1 had Justin Long. It all follows the Goosebumps tv series that ran in the 90s and was successful as well, going for 4 seasons.
Goosebumps Franchise On The Screen
A film adaptation of Goosebumps was released in October 2015, again, just in time for Halloween.
It starred Jack Black as as a fictionalized version of author R. L. Stine, whose scary characters come to life, forcing him to hide from the very things he created. That movie was a success and Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween was released in 2018, also featuring Jack Black.
Between the books, TV and film adaptations, and video games, R. L. Stine’s net worth is reported to be about $200 million.
Goosebumps season 2 will be on Disney+ and season 1 is on Disney+ now.
