Good Omens Season 2 Plot Finally Revealed
When the first season of fantasy comedy Good Omens was released in 2019, fans ate it up—and with a cast that includes Doctor Who’s David Tennant and Jon Hamm of Mad Men fame, it’s not hard to see why. Despite being billed as a one-off limited series, viewers wanted more, and now they’re getting it. As SlashFilm reports, series stars David Tennant and Michael Sheen recently dropped some hints about what fans can expect from Good Omens Season 2, and to quote Tennant, it sounds “delicious.”
“There was a slow realization that actually there might be more to come. Neil [Gaiman] was clearly excited at the idea, and I think Amazon were keen to do it.”

As previously stated, Good Omens was supposed to be a one-and-done production, so much so that David Tennant admits that the idea for Season 2 didn’t even come about until after the show aired. Once the first installment of Good Omens was over, “There was a slow realization that actually there might be more to come,” according to Tennant. “Neil was clearly excited at the idea, and I think Amazon were keen to do it.”
Despite only signing contracts for one season, both Tennant, who plays the demon Crowley on the show, and Michael Sheen, who portrays angel Aziraphale, were “thrilled” when they were told they would get to revisit their characters in Good Omens Season 2.
How Good Omens Season 2 Came To Be
Tennant described the process in which season 2 came to be as months and years of Neil Gaiman dropping “little nuggets” about the second season from time to time. Meanwhile, Michael Sheen said that most of what happens to his character Aziraphale in season 2 comes from conversations Neil had with the co-writer of the original Good Omens novel, Terry Pratchett, before the author’s death in 2015.
Sheen revealed during his interview with SlashFilm that the first thing Gaiman told him about Good Omens Season 2 was the return of Jon Hamm’s Gabriel—leader of the forces of Heaven—and how he again enters into Crowley and Aziraphale’s lives setting up events that would eventually lead to the end of Season 2. Tennant, for his part, got more specific when talking about a scene Gaiman shared with him over Zoom while he was shooting Around The World in 80 Days.
“Neil read us the first scene, the opening scene, which is, if you’ve seen it, you’ll know we meet a very youthful Crowley and Aziraphale, very much way back at the beginning of time.” said Tennant. Gaiman then went on to describe the plot of the whole season, including how it would end, a detail Tennant said “felt delicious” when he heard it.
As a recent trailer showed, Good Omens season 2 will revolve around Jon Hamm‘s Gabriel suddenly appearing in London naked and with severe amnesia.
“Neil read us the first scene, the opening scene, which is, if you’ve seen it, you’ll know we meet a very youthful Crowley and Aziraphale, very much way back at the beginning of time.”

When asked how Gabriel’s sudden reappearance changes the dynamic between the two main characters, Tennant answered, “I mean, he’s the grit in the oyster there because I think they’ve just about managed to figure out a way of existing separately and together without their head offices ruling their lives.” Tennant hints that Gabriel’s return throws Crowley and Azriphale’s relatively peaceful existence into utter turmoil.
Sheen seconded Tennant’s sentiment, comparing Crowley and Aziraphale to a married couple—albeit a “very odd couple”—whose lives are disrupted by Gabriel’s sudden return. Tennant went as far as to describe the dynamic between the two main characters and the amnesiac Gabriel as “two supernatural and a baby,” comparing their situation to ’80s comedy classic Three Men and A Baby.
Unlike the relatively low-stakes shenanigans in the fan-favorite Steve Gutenberg comedy, the “baby” that Crowley and Aziraphale must look after ends up putting them on heaven and hell’s naughty list, causing Aziraphale to declare at the end of the Good Omens Season 2 trailer that he may have started a war between the two factions.
