Godzilla vs. Kong

Godzilla vs. Kong is gearing up to be a total spectacle. The two iconic monsters have been on a collision course for some time now. This movie is gearing up to bring a level of violence and destruction we haven’t seen in this franchise so far, which is really saying something. Up until now, we’ve only gotten a sense of size and scope from some teasers and posters. But now we’ve got a full-blown trailer to feast on. Check out the latest look at Godzilla vs. Kong.

The latest trailer opens with the idea that there is a child who can communicate with Kong almost directly and that the latter is going to be needed in an upcoming fight. The scenery from the ships in the ocean with Kong’s hand running through the water looks like a fantastic juxtaposition around the characters and the monster’s circumstance. But where Godzilla vs. Kong looks like it really dials things up is when Godzilla floats up into the mix, looking predatory, menacing, and ultimately destructive. It’s here in the ocean when the two start to really clash.

From the Godzilla vs. Kong trailer, it’s a little unclear how the Earth can ever hope to survive the wrath of Godzilla. First off, the near-indestructible exterior withstands an unholy amount of military firepower right to start with the war machine unleashing uncounted missiles and other weapons at it. But when you combine that with the radioactive fire breath it razes everything else in its path. Sure, Kong gives it a right cross in the opening scene on the boat, but it really doesn’t seem like enough does it?

It’s also clear that in this film that Godzilla is clearly being triggered by something. The humans involved are more than happy to let everyone know this even though it’s painfully obvious by the way he’s obliterating everything in his path. But that looks like the general gestalt of Godzilla vs. Kong, the two monsters are going to be locked in this final was and the lowly humans have very little recourse. They are apparently the only two now (or maybe forever) who could realistically handle the other.

Godzilla vs. Kong is set to be the fourth film in Legendary’s Monsterverse franchise following Godzilla, Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Kong: Skull Island. That last movie hinted at the inevitable conflict between these two, intimating the struggle has been going on for thousands of years.

It won’t be long before we can finally catch these two battling on the big screen. Godzilla vs. Kong is set for a March 31, 2021 release. This film has been shifted all over the place because of pandemic-related theater closings with Legendary seemingly unable to land on a solid date. But with the continued rollouts of these trailers, it does look like late March will be the day. It’s just a matter of time before we see these two clash and figure out exactly how anyone or anything is going to stop Godzilla.
