A Marvel Star Was Just Cast In Godzilla Vs. Kong 2
This article is more than 2 years old
Transporting from the universe of Marvel to the world of clashing monsters, Legion star Dan Stevens will officially be joining the cast of the sequel to last year’s Godzilla vs. Kong. Deadline broke the news that Stevens was the first leading role to be brought on board for the approaching film, meaning those who’ve been waiting to hear more about the project are about to get a lot more info where that came from! So far, the only thing we know is that the film will see the two gargantuan beasts face off against one another all over again – something that can be expected from any film coming from this franchise.
With production eying a start date over the summer, Dan Stevens and the rest of the soon-to-be cast will be packing their bags for Australia very shortly. The original film’s director, Adam Wingard will be back in the saddle to help guide the sequel to find just as much success as the 2021 title. When Godzilla vs. Kong first stomped into theaters, the world was still in the very beginning stages of returning to any semblance of normalcy during the pandemic, but the monster flick still managed to rake in a whopping $468 million globally.
Fans of the FX series, Legion will remember Dan Stevens from his starring role as the titular character. The series followed David Haller aka Legion (Stevens) who believes that he suffers from schizophrenia. By the time he’s in his early 30s, David is trying to live a peaceful life with his girlfriend and fellow psychiatric patient, Syd (Rachel Keller). It’s because of a bizarre happening with Syd that the wheels in David’s brain begin to turn, leading him to wonder if the voices in his head are real. With the help of a crack team of therapists, David is able to harness his powers and discover the truth behind his believed mental illness.
Over its three season run, Legion pulled in Marvel fans who loved seeing a new story told. It also didn’t hurt that the cast starring alongside Dan Stevens and Rachel Keller was made up of some of the most well known names in Hollywood including the likes of Aubrey Plaza, Bill Irwin, Jeremie Harris, Amber Midthunder, Katie Aselton, Jean Smart, and Navid Negahban with Jon Hamm as the narrator during Season 2. Although the series ended after three seasons, the story received a great telling with a talented cast and crew to back it up.
Right around the time Legion was blowing our minds, Dan Stevens took on a very different role in the live-action version of Beauty and the Beast which crashed into theaters in 2017. The film would see Stevens taking on one of the titular roles as the Beast as he tried to woo his way into Belle’s (Emma Watson) heart. With his part in the Godzilla vs. Kong sequel solidified, it’s only a matter of time until we hear more casting updates and feast our eyes on first look teasers. The film will also mark the reunion of Dan Stevens and Adam Wingard who previously worked together on 2014’s nailbiter, The Guest. Knowing that the leading actor and director make such a great team, we can’t wait to see what happens in the next installment of the monster showdown flick.
