We can finally confirm that Sony will be bringing us a God of War TV series which will be set to air on Amazon. While we and several other entertainment news media outlets have previously speculated about the production, it’s official now that Sony’s PlayStation Productions will in fact be moving forward with its newest project. Rumors surrounding the anticipated series began to swirl following a Q&A the entertainment company held during its investor meeting when Sony Interactive Entertainment head, Jim Ryan, answered positively to several questions about the show.
But let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves. While we know for a fact that God of War will be making its way to our screens, there’s a lot we still don’t know. Questions yet to be answered include who will helm the production and who will star and fill out the ensemble cast. With the recent announcement, it’s only a matter of time until these burning questions are answered. It also makes us wonder about the story that will be told and how much of the game’s plotline will be followed. We do have an idea that Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, the duo behind The Expanse, may be involved as Deadline dropped some information regarding their ties to production although nothing was ever confirmed. This claim also revealed that The Wheel of Time’s Rafe Judkins would be attached, but, again, this was not confirmed.
Sony has been taking full advantage of its partnership with PlayStation, seeing God of War as the media juggernaut’s latest reveal in a long list of other underway productions and successfully dropped pieces. Of their latest releases was Uncharted which was based on the smash hit gaming series of the same name. The feature starred Tom Holland, Mark Wahlberg, Sophia Ali, Tati Gabrielle, and Antonio Banderas and is currently the fourth highest-grossing film of 2022. Ruben Fleischer directed the feature with a screenplay by Rafe Judkins, Art Marcum, and Matt Holloway.
As far as upcoming productions, God of War is in the waiting line alongside a Twisted Metal series, as well as two feature-length films based around Jak and Daxter and Ghost of Tsushima. Sony likes to keep its talent close with Uncharted director, Ruben Fleischer attaching his name to the Jak and Daxter project. As for Twisted Metal, we currently know that Marvel superstar, Anthony Mackie, will be both starring and executive producing the series for Peacock. Another big name, Will Arnett, is also tied to the production as an executive producer. With not much known about Ghost of Tsushima, our only information is that filmmaker Takashi Doscher has signed on as director.
With more PlayStation content coming out than we can keep track of, we’re super excited to hear that the action-adventure series, God of War will be receiving its on-screen telling. Just as rumors swirled around the game turning into a full-blown televised series, we’re sure the next round of questions will be about who will be stepping into the massive shoes of Kratos and Atreus. To stay on top of things, make sure you follow us for more information as it becomes available.
