The official teaser trailer for Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery is here and, fittingly, it gives very little away. As you can see in the teaser, Daniel Craig’s southern-fried Benoit Blanc is back and he’s in Greece to solve a brand new mystery with a brand new cast of characters. The dynamite cast is highlighted in the trailer too, showing us glimpses of Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Jessica Henwick, Madelyn Cline with Kate Hudson, and Dave Bautista.

It might be safe to say that the official teaser for Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery is the perfect trailer. Since it’s a mystery movie, it’s probably best that they don’t tell us too much. The first Knives Out was a big hit for Rian Johnson, who was fresh off his divisive addition to the Star Wars canon with Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi. Knives Out experienced no such critical division, raking in over $311 million at the worldwide box office and holding a 97% critical rating on Rotten Tomatoes with 92% from audiences. It’s no wonder that Netflix picked up the franchise for not just one, but two sequels.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery seems to be following the same successful formula as the original. Rian Johnson writes and directs, Daniel Craig’s detective is thrown into a wild mystery, and a cast stacked with some of the best in the business play some odd and eccentric characters. The original cast was no less impressive, with Ana de Armas, Chris Evans, Jamie Lee Curtis, Michael Shannon, Toni Collette, Don Johnson, LaKeith Stanfield, Christopher Plummer, Katherine Langford, Riki Lindhome, and Jaeden Martell all along for the ride. Knives Out even nabbed Johnson a Best Original Screenplay nomination at the Oscars. Undoubtedly, Netflix is hoping that Glass Onion can recreate some of that success.

Clearly, Netflix has faith. As mentioned, there has already been a third entry to the franchise announced that will follow Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery. The third Knives Out film is expected to come out sometime in 2024 and will also feature Daniel Craig returning as Benoit Blanc. Of course, there will likely be a whole new cast of characters for the next entry, but we probably won’t find out those details for a little while. Unless Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery and the third movie completely miss expectations, this could be a full-on franchise for Craig and Johnson. After all, the formula is a pretty simple one to repeat, as long as Johnson can keep coming up with compelling mysteries and characters.

Fortunately, we won’t have to wait long to see Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery. The film is set to hit Netflix just in time for the holidays on December 23. Meanwhile, the movie is set to have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival this Saturday. Presumably, we’ll hear some buzz from attendees to see if the sequel can live up to the expectations set by the original.
