Gina Carano has courted controversy for months, but it seems like the pressure has finally gotten to the powers-that-be over at Lucasfilm. According to a statement obtained by io9, Lucasfilm has permanently cut ties with the Mandalorian actress.

The spokesperson for Lucasfilm said, “Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.” We are expecting there to be a field day of questions coming towards Lucasfilm, and they will likely be given the opportunity to clarify their position, but this looks to be as cut and dried as you can possibly get.

This decision comes after Gina Carano was criticized for reposting a picture and caption on her Instagram account that many viewed as being anti-Semitic. The hashtag #FireGinaCarano was trending on Twitter for hours – and it was not the first time that occurred over the last year – and it seems to have finally been too much for Disney to ignore.

Gina Carano has been stoking controversy over the last year with her many radical viewpoints that she shared on social media. Along with this most recent controversy, she has been accused of disparaging the Black Lives Matter movement by liking dismissive posts about the subject, mocking trans rights in relation to pronoun usage, spreading conspiracy theories about the 2020 presidential election, and showcasing anti-mask sentiments that call into question the legitimacy of the coronavirus pandemic. With all of that already dredging up a lot of public ire towards her, it seems that this most recent post was the nail in her Star Wars career’s coffin.

Reportedly, Gina Carano was set to be a major player in Rangers of the New Republic, one of the many exclusive Star Wars series planned for the streaming service Disney+. Now, we have to wonder if that show will still continue through to production. Will it be getting completely reworked in order to avoid the character of Cara Dune? Or will Disney end up scrapping the project entirely since there could be some residual reminder of Carano’s presence?

It is also going to be interesting to see if this firing ends up resonating through the majority of the Hollywood system. In short, could Disney cutting ties with Gina Carano effectively make her persona non grata in mainstream entertainment? According to industry insider Daniel Richtman, the answer is a resounding, “Yes.” This firing is effectively blacklisting her from Hollywood. While this does not mean she won’t be given some acting opportunities if she wants to pursue them, it is going to be nigh impossible for her to appear in any major film or television productions.

After her seemingly stubborn refusal to back down from making her antagonistic political viewpoints public, this seems like the only recourse Gina Carano left the Mouse House. With the Star Wars franchise already suffering from heavy divides in the fandom for a multitude of reasons, this firing will almost certainly radicalize certain contingents even more. Things are going to get even more heated in the world of Star Wars discourse. But Gina Carano won’t be a part of it.
