Gina Carano is making a return to Disney+ this week. But it's not going in the role many would like to see her back in sooner than later

Gina Carano was supposed to have been fully canceled by Disney, never to make a return right? Well, not so fast. It looks like the actress will actually be coming back to the Disney+ streaming platform this week, just not in the way you might have thought before. According to We Got This Covered, Carano’s episode of Running Wild with Bear Grylls is actually going to air on the platform after speculation that it would be removed when the show made its way over from National Geographic. If she can return like this, might we see her able to come back in other fashions as well?
The rumor has been that when Running Will with Bear Grylls ended its first-run season on National Geographic and then began airing on Disney+, the Gina Carano episode would be removed from the lineup. This was speculated when the streaming platform originally released the viewing schedule and the Carano episode was noticeably absent. Whether that was always the plan and they’ve now reversed course, or whether they simply had it in the cards, to begin with, isn’t clear. It’s neither here nor there because the Carano episode will air on the platform.
Back in January Gina Carano filmed her episode with Bear Grylls in which they explored the Dolemite Mountains in Italy, taking part in all manner of adventures the show is known for. Considering her background and physical prowess, the show appeared perfectly aligned with what she had to offer on-screen. But in the months between the filming and the airing, Carano saw her career take a definitive shift (understatement).
After months of will-they-won’t-they speculation about her employment with Disney as Cara Dune on the wildly popular series The Mandalorian, the actress was fired after she made a controversial social media post that apparently compared the plight of the Jews in the Holocaust to the treatment of modern-day Republicans. This followed a number of other “incidents” online for the actress which had drawn considerable scrutiny and ire from the fan base. In the end, she was terminated from the show and was written out of the Star Wars ever-growing universe.
It didn’t take long for Gina Carano to pick up another gig and she was, in the same day, hire by conservative media outlet The Daily Wire the begin headlining movie productions in that growing arm of the company. Of course, it isn’t Disney but there was at least some signal that she wasn’t being canceled everywhere.
When her episode of Running Wild With Bear Grylls came out a couple of weeks ago, it was actually well-received by fans of the actress. Many took to social media to praise her for the adventure, signaling that a possibility existed of Gina Carano one day making a return to some more mainstream roles. That this show didn’t receive considerable backlash was likely a win in the actresses’ favor and also probably something of a testing ground for how Disney+ would handle it when the show came to the platform.
So is Gina Carano still canceled? Maybe only kind of. With the seemingly insignificant move by Disney, it does appear they are keeping the door open to a possible return, seeing how folks will react to Carano returning to the platform even if it’s not as Cara Dune right away. And heck, they even included her in their Emmy nomination list. So maybe they are trying extra hard now to keep the possibility alive of her coming back.
