For former MMA fighter and now actress, Gina Carano, the timing couldn’t be any better. Her appearance in the Disney+ massive hit The Mandalorian was an unexpected bright spot in what was many bright spots from the series. With that in mind, her popularity as Cara Dune may have just landed her a series of her own according to LRM Online.
Rumors of potential Star Wars/Mandalorian spin-offs have been pouring out of the House of Mouse for some time now. Given that Disney is anxious to move past their blundering of the final three Skywalker Saga movies, various movies and series pitches have been uttered. There has been talk of spin-offs involving Ahsoka Tano, Boba Fett, and Ezra Bridger. And now here we are talking about one for Gina Carano.
We know there is an Obi-Wan Kenobi series in production with Ewan McGregor that plans to tell Kenobi’s life between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. We also know there is also a Cassian Andor series in the works which will have Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Diego Luna starring alongside his K-2SO mate Alan Tudyk.
All these rumors and announcements should not come as a surprise, as it was also recently announced by Disney CEO, Bob Chapek, that there will be some major restructuring of Disney Entertainment. What that all entails are unknown at this point. But we know for certain that Disney may begin to start forgoing their release of movies to movie theaters and instead concentrate on pushing more content for their streaming service. That being said, it means Chapek will be looking for much more original content to fill Disney+ so a Cara Dune series seems like a logical choice.
What Gina Carano’s Mandalorian spinoff series will entail is anyone’s guess at this point, mainly because Disney has not announced that it is a for sure thing. For now it’s just a rumor, but if a series is truly in the works, they could take Gina Carano’s character of Dune in a couple of different directions. They could go the prequel route like Disney is doing (kind of forced to) with the Cassian Andor series, and tell Cara Dune’s story from her beginnings.
What we know of Gina Carano character so far is this: she is a survivor of Alderaan. She was a Rebellion Shock Trooper. Her time as a Shock Trooper came during the Galactic Civil War, so we could go back to that time and see what life was like on Alderaan and also see her time as a Shock Trooper. So it would make sense if we got the chance to see why and how her life as a Shock Trooper ended.
Of course, they can also take fans to the present and why Gina Carano’s Dune is on the run, even jumping forward to life after she hooked up with the Mandalorian and the Child. The choices are endless and could really be something worth exploring. Cara Dune’s popularity, as well as Gina Carano’s, just may make it happen. At least there are many in the Disney camp that hope so.
