The Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim has offered fans of the beloved saga a plethora of news bites, from returning series to brand new shows and teaser trailers galore. Now though, courtesy of Giancarlo Esposito, The Mandalorian actor who took on the role of villain Moff Gideon, fans have been given an adorable glimpse at Moff Gideon showing love to Baby Yoda, aka Grogu, Screen Rant reports.

Giancarlo Esposito’s Moff Gideon was hellbent on capturing Baby Yoda aka Grogu across both seasons of The Mandalorian, with Pedro Pascal’s Mandalorian thwarting him at every turn. However, Esposito turned the tables at the Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim as he shared an adorable photo on Twitter of him holding a baby in an adorable Baby Yoda outfit. The actor wrote alongside the photos; “I finally caught up to my #BabyYoda! To my chagrin, he melted my heart!” You can see the Tweet in full below.

As adorable as this reunion is, could Giancarlo Esposito’s Tweet be a hint that Moff Gideon and Grogu will come to blows once again in The Mandalorian season three? The show is set to make its return in February next year and in The Book of Boba Fett, it was revealed that Gideon was set to face the New Republic to face sentencing for his various Baby Yoda-related crimes. Star Wars has a knack for returning characters seemingly from beyond the grave, such as Darth Maul and Emperor Palpatine, so it would be no surprise if the still alive Gideon manages to escape his New Republic captivity and wreak havoc on Baby Yoda once again.

Such a plot development has yet to be confirmed, it is known that Grogu and Din Djarin will return, with the latter attempting to seek redemption among his fellow Mandalorians for removing his helmet. Bo Katan will also be returning along with Carl Weathers’ Greef Karga. Several other announcements came out of the Star Wars Celebration as well, such as the August 31 release date for Andor and a whole new show coming in 2023 starring Jude Law, called Star Wars Skeleton Crew. Giancarlo Esposito’s time in Star Wars may have possibly come to an end, but he is set to feature in another huge show this June, Esposito is returning as Stan Edgar in The Boys season three.

It truly is an exciting time in the world of Star Wars, Disney+ series are occurring at an alarming rate with recurring and new characters alike, from Obi-Wan Kenobi to Ahsoka. Giancarlo Esposito’s Moff Gideon was an impressive villain in The Mandalorian, but his appearances across the two seasons were brief, so it would be a shame if fans had seen his final confrontation with ‘Mando’ and Baby Yoda. If not, Esposito’s adorable Baby Yoda reunion will serve as an appropriate tonic for fans, and should Esposito not return to a galaxy far, far away, an actor with such presence and talent, with marquee shows such as Breaking Bad in his back catalog, is sure to find plenty of exciting roles in the future.
