Gerard Butler Sequel Gets Release Date After Over Half A Decade
Gerard Butler’s Den of Thieves 2: Pantera finally has a release date. The film is a direct follow-up to the 2018 heist flick and is coming to theaters on January 10, 2025. Along with Butler, O’Shea Jackson Jr. is reprising his role, while Christian Gudegast returns as writer and director.
Den Of Thieves 2 Is Finally Coming
Gerard Butler’s Den of Thieves 2: Pantera is picking up directly after the first film’s events, as Butler’s Big Nick O’Brien seeks out Jackson Jr’s Donnie Wilson, who plans to pull off another heist in Europe. The rest of the cast will include Jordan Bridges, Evin Ahmad, Swen Temmel, and Antonio Bustorff. The long-awaited sequel might have come out sooner, but the planned filming dates for 2022 ended up getting pushed to 2023.
Den Of Thieves Was A Surprise Hit
It seems like Gerard Butler’s Den of Thieves 2: Pantera will continue to expand the world introduced in the original, as the official plot synopsis mentions how Donnie gets wrapped up in the world of diamond thieves and the Panther mafia.
After waiting so long for this sequel, it remains to be seen if it can pull off the same level of success as the first film. Den of Thieves cleaned up at the box office, raking in a respectable $80.5 million worldwide against a relatively small $30 million budget.
Mixed Reviews But The Public Loved It
Gerard Butler’s original Den of Thieves film followed the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department trying to stop a gang of ex-MARSOC Marines-turned-thieves who try to rob the Federal Reserve in Los Angeles. The film received relatively mixed reviews, but the box office performance was enough to warrant the sequel, Den of Thieves 2: Pantera. The original film also starred Pablo Schreiber, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Evan Jones, Dawn Olivieri, Mo McRae, and Max Holloway.
The Director Is Also Coming Back
Along with Gerard Butler, O’Shea Jackson Jr, and director/writer/producer Christian Gudegast, cinematographer Terry Stacey is also on board for Den of Thieves 2: Pantera. Meadow Williams, Swen Temmel, Philip Waley, Jonathan Kier, Gregoire Gensollen, and Glenn D Feig will serve as executive producers on the project. Lionsgate Films is handling distribution this time around.
While it’s been over half a decade since we saw Gerard Butler in the first Den of Thieves, he has certainly stayed busy while we’ve been waiting for Den of Thieves 2.
Gerard Butler Has Kept Busy
Butler most recently had a voice role in the Ark: The Animated Series video game adaptation for Paramount+ alongside a star-studded voice cast that also included Madeleine Madden, Michelle Yeoh, Zahn McClarnon, Jeffrey Wright, David Tennant, Russell Crowe, Elliot Page, Karl Urban and more. He’s also set to reprise his role as Stoick from the How to Train Your Dragon franchise in the upcoming live-action adaptation.
2025 Is A Big Year For Butler
Gerard Butler is gearing up to have quite the year in 2025, as the How to Train Your Dragon live-action film is also set to drop on June 13, 2025. That’s bound to be a big success, and if Den of Thieves 2: Pantera recreates the success of the original, it could be one of Gerard’s biggest blockbuster years in a while. Stay tuned, and we’ll keep you updated on these projects and more.
