Gerard Butler Has The #1 Movie On Netflix
Gerard Butler's action thriller Last Seen Alive is the #1 movie on Netflix.
Action man Gerard Butler is back in his usual groove in a film that’s taken the top spot on Netflix. While in the past the 300 star’s feature length projects have been hit or miss, this one is definitely landing with the at-home-viewing crowd. However, this news does come as a surprise as when the film, titled Last Seen Alive, first landed in theaters back in early June, it didn’t connect so well with critics, and is currently sitting with a terrifyingly low critics rating of 11% on Rotten Tomatoes.
In Gerard Butler’s latest Netflix hit, the Law Abiding Citizen star plays Will Spann, a doting and loving husband to Jaimie Alexander’s Lisa Spann. While driving Lisa to her parents’ house, the couple stops at a gas station to fill up. Butwhen Lisa doesn’t come back to the car, Will begins to panic and realizes that his beloved wife has vanished without a trace.
With his alarm bells immediately going off, Will suspects that his wife has met foul play and loops in the proper authorities. But, as in most cases of a spousal disappearance or mysterious death, Will becomes the prime suspect launching him into a race with the law to prove his innocence before he’s detained. Like many of his other pieces, this Gerard Butler Netflix hit is jam packed with explosions and all the butt-kicking sequences you’d expect from the face of such films as Greenland, Den of Thieves, and the Has Fallen franchise.
Along with Gerard Butler and Jaimie Alexander, the top Netflix film also stars the likes of Russell Hornsby, Ethan Embry, Michael Irby, Cindy Hogan, and Bruce Altman. The feature was helmed by actor-turned-director Brian Goodman from a screenplay by Marc Frydman. As per usual, Butler’s G-BASE is one of the names attached to the production team alongside Voltage Pictures, Perfection Hunter Productions, and Marc Frydman Production.
Last Seen Alive is the latest of Gerard Butler led features to land on Netflix with other titles such as London Has Fallen, Olympus Has Fallen, Den of Thieves, and the rom-com The Bounty Hunter also available for your streaming enjoyment. As for upcoming projects, Butler has quite a few up his sleeve.
Although at this time none of the films are setting Gerard Butler up for another Netflix takeover, they all sound right up the actor’s alley. First up will be the (possibly never-to-be-released) Jamie Foxx starring and directed comedy drama All-Star Weekend that will see Butler adding his name to a star-studded call sheet that includes Jeremy Piven, Jessica Szohr, Eva Longoria, Robert Downey Jr. Ken Jeong, Gerard Butler, and Benicio del Toro – just to name a few. We also have the Jean-François Richet feature, The Plane, an action-thriller in which Butler will lead alongside the likes of Mike Colter, Daniella Pineda, Kelly Gale, Yoson An, Remi Adeleke, Haleigh Hekking, Lilly Krug, Joey Sotnick, Oliver Trevena, Tony Goldwyn, and Paul Ben-Victor.
Finally, there’s a reunion feature in the works between Gerard Butler and Ric Roman Waugh, the director behind Angel Has Fallen and Greenland. Titled Kandahar, the film will see Butler and a cast including Ali Fazal, Navid Negahban, Nina Toussaint-White, and Travis Fimmel tell the anxiety-inducing story of a CIA operative who must escape enemy territory in Afghanistan. While it hasn’t been announced as to when the picture will hit the big screen, because films from the Gerard Butler led Has Fallen franchise are now available on Netflix, we have a feeling that this one will end up there too.
While he held down roles in features like Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle of Life and the bizarre and critically booed Joel Schumacher helmed take on The Phantom of the Opera, it was through Zack Snyder’s beautifully shot fantasy epic, 300 that Butler found fame. Starring as the leading character, King Leonidas, Gerard Butler would become a permanent fixture in the action genre for years to come including the now Netflix number one feature. From there, it was only up for Butler who has mainly kept his acting talents to heavy, explosive and violent action flicks and romantic comedies where he’s melted hearts and starred opposite some of the biggest names in Hollywood including Jennifer Aniston, Hilary Swank, and Jessica Biel.
