Gerard Butler Kandahar Trailer Shows An Action-Packed CIA Thriller
Gerard Butler's latest film, Kandahar, gets an action-packed trailer.
Scottish actor Gerard Butler is back at it in another action-packed thriller, this time in a movie called Kandahar. The Open Road Films production is set to be released on May 26, 2023, and it will feature Gerard Butler as an undercover CIA operative. The new trailer gives us plenty of action and insight into what we can expect from this thrill ride.
According to IMDb, Gerard Butler will play the role of Tom Harris in Kandahar, an undercover CIA operative who gets stuck in Afghanistan after his mission gets exposed. Together, he and his translator will need to fight against their enemies to try and find their way home.
The trailer sheds some light on the mission of the CIA targeting an Iranian nuclear facility. Gerard Butler’s character is exposed as an operative, forcing him and his translator to head to Kandahar, their extraction point at an old CIA base. The two must travel and fight through 400 miles of enemy territory over the course of 30 hours for a chance to make it home.
Gerard Butler and his translator are in a race for survival as they make their way to Kandahar. The trailer looks as though they get captured by the Afghanistan military, forcing Gerard Butler to switch into action mode to save their lives.
The new film is directed by Ric Roman Waugh, who has teamed up with Gerard Butler on a few other movies before Kandahar. The two have worked together in the past on action-packed survival films Greenland and Angel Has Fallen. Their collaborations will continue as the sequel to Greenland, Greenland: Migration is currently in pre-production.
Kandahar is produced by Open Road Films, a company known for great action movies like Jake Gyllenhaal’s Nightcrawler, Machete Kills, Silent Hill: Revelation, and Red Dawn. More recently, the production company has been releasing action films that star Liam Neeson, like Honest Thief, The Marksman, and Memory.
Gerard Butler has had an incredible career, starring almost exclusively in action thrillers like Kandahar. His breakout role as King Leonidas in 2006’s film 300 set the tone for his career. Since then, the action star has gone on to film more successful thrillers like Law Abiding Citizen, Den of Thieves, and his most recent hit movie, Plane.
However, the actor isn’t always all about fighting and killing his co-stars; he’s also got a funny and romantic side to him too. Gerard Butler has played the love interest to several leading ladies on the big screen, like Hillary Swank in P.S. I Love You, Jennifer Aniston in The Bounty Hunter, and Katherine Heigl in The Ugly Truth. It looks like there may even be some romance involved in the action-packed Kandahar, as it seems like Gerard Butler’s character is trying to get home to a loved one.
Unlike Gerard Butler’s 2022 action film Last Seen Alive, audiences won’t be able to stream Kandahar on Netflix. Instead, they’ll have to head to the movie theaters to catch it when it premiers on May 26, 2023.
