Here's our first official look at the Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon.

Game of Thrones may have ended on a controversial note, but HBO is still planning to revisit the property with the prequel, House of the Dragon. Based on George R.R. Martin’s two-volume history book of House Targaryen, the series has been in development for quite some time now. However, we have not gotten any kind of sneak peek regarding the show. That all changes today.
HBO has released two promotional images of concept art from the Game of Thrones spinoff, as well as the show’s first official poster. Take a look at the first images we have seen from House of the Dragon below:
In what should not be a surprise to anyone, the Game of Thrones spinoff House of the Dragon will in fact have dragons in it. With the prequel set to center around the history of the Targaryen family, it was pretty much a given that dragons would once again be a centerpiece for the story. The Targaryen family was infamous for their relationships with dragons and how they rode them into battle. Fans would be disappointed if we didn’t get some new dragons to ogle at in this new series.
And from what we can tell from these pieces of concept art, it looks like we will be seeing multiple dragons in House of the Dragon. The original Game of Thrones show gave viewers a look at three different dragons that were under the command of Daenerys Targaryen. With House of the Dragon set to explore the deep history of the Targaryens and their dragons, just how many different dragons might we see over the course of the prequel series? These two pieces of concept art seem to show off two different dragons, so we are hoping we will get even more than that in the finished show.
There is also an official poster out for House of the Dragon. Take a gander at the Game of Thrones spinoff series’ first poster right here:
It may not be much more than the sigil of House Targaryen, but it is another bit of reassurance that HBO is going to produce this Game of Thrones prequel. Though, it is worth asking how hyped audiences might even be for this show. The final season of the show has been viewed as one of the biggest failed endings of a show in television history. And the cultural fervor around Game of Thrones seemed to immediately die off after that last season. Are viewers still enticed by a return to Westeros? Or has the luster of the property faded completely after such a divisive finale?
We will have to wait and see just how much fans and casual watchers are interested in House of the Dragon once we start seeing some footage from the show. HBO is in a pretty prime place right now after the historic announcement regarding Warner Bros.’ 2021 theatrical slate going to HBO Max at the same time as their theatrical releases. If HBO could also attract more subscribers with this Game of Thrones prequel, they could be sitting very pretty in the streaming wars.
