From starring in what may have been the best Fast and the Furious movie to stepping into Wonder Woman’s godly shoes, Gal Gadot has emerged as one of the most talked-about actresses of the last decade, and for good reason. As Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, she exudes an irresistible mix of kindness, strength, and forgiveness. As the Fast and the Furious franchise’s Gisele Yashar, she is able to kick butt with the best of them. Now, she is set to star in a Netflix-bound spy thriller from The Old Guard writer Greg Rucka and Hidden Figures co-scribe Allison Schroeder.
Collider brings word that Gal Gadot will star in the upcoming Skydance production Heart of Stone, a high-profile project that Netflix hopes will be even more in-demand after the release of their new action film Red Notice. The Aeronauts director Tom Harper has been tapped to direct while Gadot, Dana Goldberg, Don Granger, and David Ellison are producing. Next to nothing is known about the movie beyond that; it is still an incredibly young project, but fortunately, it is one that we will undoubtedly hear more about in the coming months. At this point, it’s likely Heart of Stone might not hit Netflix until 2022 at the earliest.
Skydance has produced some of Netflix’s biggest hits, including The Old Guard and Underground 6. It will be interesting to see if it can top those, especially the former. The Old Guard was an incredibly fun film from last year with an expectedly great performance from Charlize Theron. Hopefully, Heart of Stone will maintain the amusing action of Skydance’s recent films in a movie that shows off Gal Gadot’s strengths as an action star.
If you are eager for more Gal Gadot, fret not: Kenneth Branagh’s highly anticipated Death on the Nile finally hits theaters on September 17, with the aforementioned, star-studded Red Notice also set to premiere sometime this year. She is also confirmed to be reuniting with Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins for Paramount’s upcoming Cleopatra movie. She wasn’t part of the Justice League Snyder Cut reshoots but you can rest easy knowing she will still be in it in a major way.
While Wonder Woman 1984 didn’t receive the best reviews, DC has shown they have quite a bit of confidence in both Gal Gadot and director Patty Jenkins. Already in development is a Wonder Woman spin-off, which would focus on the Amazons of Themyscira, which Jenkins would produce, but not direct. This film will supposedly link the events between Wonder Woman 1984 and the upcoming third film, which will be directed by Jenkins and star Gal Gadot. It is not entirely clear when these next projects will happen though, considering Jenkins is working on the next Star Wars film, Rogue Squadron.
Also, in terms of what else Netflix has in store for its subscribers, the streamer just announced its list of films scheduled for 2021 in a video that stars Gal Gadot, alongside her Red Notice costars Dwayne Johnson and Ryan Reynolds. It looks as though there’s a lot of exciting new projects coming to Netflix in 2021, but Heart of Stone already gives us something to look forward to beyond this year on the streaming service.
