Funniest Movie Scenes Ever Filmed
Comedy is an acquired taste. Some love the slapstick genre, while others like screwball (yes, there is a difference). Then there is the parody comedy that, for some reason, men find much more humorous than the ladies. Finally, there are black comedies, those that take a funny look at darker, taboo subjects.
It doesn’t matter the genre you prefer when individual scenes hit their mark. The following six scenes are some of the funniest movie scenes ever to hit the big screen. What’s your favorite funny one?
Funniest Movie Scenes Ever Filmed
Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004)
On their own, San Diego’s Channel 4 news team offers enough laughs to make for one memorable movie. Will Ferrell’s Ron Burgundy is their leader, joined by Champ Kind (David Koechner), Brian Fontana (Paul Rudd), and Brick Tamland (Steve Carell).
After following Brick’s directions (for 45 minutes) on a “shortcut” to the suit store, they find themselves in hot water when approached by their rivals, Wes Mantooth’s (Vince Vaughn) Evening News team. As they prepare to do battle, Channel 2 news, led by Luke Wilson’s Frank Vitchard, enters the fray.
Next up comes the Public News team, headed by Tim Robbins. Finally, the Spanish language news team shows up with Ben Stiller’s Arturo Mendez ready to fight. The fight is hilariously over-the-top violent, but all in the name of comedy.
Dumb and Dumber (1994)
As soon as Jim Carrey says, “Let’s put another shrimp on the barbie,” audiences know they are in for a fun time with Dumb and Dumber. The film stars Carrey and Jeff Daniels as Lloyd and Harry, two dimwitted men who find themselves at a crossroads in life when they both get fired from their jobs on the same day.
When Lloyd decides to track down a beautiful woman, Mary Swanson (Lauren Holly) he and Harry go on an uproarious road trip to find her. It all leads to one of the funniest scenes ever when Lloyd slips Harry a laxative that hits while at Mary’s house.
Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby (2006)
Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby stars Will Ferrell as the title character and John C. Reilly as racing partner, Cal Naughton. This was the first of three times the two starred in a film together and many rate it as their best effort.
There is a lot to laugh at in Talladega Nights, but the funniest scene comes right after Ricky Bobby wins a race and his family sits down for dinner. Contrary to what Ricky Bobby’s wife Carley (Leslie Bibb) says, we don’t find his saying grace to “8-pound, 6-ounce baby Jesus” off-putting at all.
Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975)
The Black Knight scene in Monty Python and the Holy Grail is one of the funniest scenes in a Monty Python film. It starts harmlessly enough with King Arthur (Graham Chapman) praising the Black Knight. But the Black Knight declines Arthur’s request to join him and instead refuses to let Arthur pass.
Suddenly, they are in a sword fight that goes from competitive to absurd quickly. When Arthur slices off the Black Knight’s left arm, he claims, “Tis nothing but a scratch.” When Arthur takes the Black Knight’s right arm, “It’s just a flesh wound.” Limb after limb, the hilarity continues.
Bridesmaids (2011)
Bridesmaids tells the hilarious story of Annie (Kristen Wiig) who suffers one misfortune after another when she is asked to be the maid of honor at her best friend Lillian’s wedding. What should be a simple task turns into a competition when Lillian’s friend Helen (Rose Byrne) gets involved, trying to take over the maid of honor duties.
The funniest scene is a classic when the bridesmaids go into a bridal shop to try on dresses and instead experience an unfortunate bout of food poisoning. Melissa McCarthy and Wendi McLendon-Covey absolutely nail it with their comedic performance in this scene.
The scene ends famously with Lillian running outside, in her wedding dress, and squatting down in the middle of the street as the food poisoning takes charge.
Airplane! (1980)
The jokes are fast and furious in the 1980 parody, Airplane! The classic comedy was written and directed by brothers Jerry and David Zucker, along with their close friend, Jim Abrahams. The film stars Robert Hays, Julie Hagerty, and a host of well-known movie stars who were best known for their serious roles.
These include Lloyd Bridges, Robert Stack, Peter Graves, and in a role that redefined his career, Leslie Nielsen. The film is a parody of airplane disaster movies and borrows the plot from the 1957 Paramount movie, Zero Hour. There are so many hilarious scenes, but the funniest is the quick (and famous) exchange between Hays and Nielsen. It is Nielsen’s deadpan delivery that makes the scene so memorable.
