Friday The 13th Fans Rejoice After Clues Hint At Long-Awaited Revival
In 2017, Friday the 13th: The Game quickly gained a lot of fans in the gaming community for being the first game that really made players feel like they were playing as Jason. Unfortunately, right when its popularity was really taking off, copyright disputes over who owned the rights to Jason brought everything to a halt and all updates on the game were put on indefinite hiatus. But those legal disputes have finally been put to rest, and some activity on the official Friday the 13th social media accounts has some fans thinking the game is going to be coming back now.
The Lawsuit
The copyright lawsuit stemmed from a dispute between the director of the first Friday the 13th film, Sean S. Cunningham, and screenwriter Victor Miller over who owned what rights to the character.
Miller has now acquired the film’s rights in the United States, and he has decided to collaborate with Horror Inc. who hold the franchise’s rights as a whole. This has quickly led to numerous projects being greenlit, and fans can’t help but be hopeful that Friday the 13th: The Game will be one of them.
Social Media Hints
Lending some hope to the situation is activity seen on the official @JasonUniverse13 Twitter/X account. Everything the account follows thus far is connected to one of the franchise projects that is being worked on. However, oddly enough, one account that it follows is for the official Friday the 13th: The Game account, as well as Gun Media who published the game.
Those details alone do not confirm anything, but it is enough to get fans excited. Some are postulating that perhaps the account is now following Friday the 13th: The Game because plans for a revival may be in the works. With the copyright dispute now settled, that would presumably mean nothing stands in the way anymore of the popular game returning.
Other Games That Have Filled The Void
Admittedly, Friday the 13th: The Game has had some of its fanbase gobbled up by games like Dead by Daylight that imitated the former’s style following its legal troubles. However, there would still no doubt be many fans who would be happy to return to Friday the 13th: The Game, especially if the many updates that were planned for it also come with the potential revival.
Before additional production had to stop, Friday the 13th: The Game was planned to receive additions for new characters, maps, and even game modes. Unfortunately, none of those could be developed any further once the legal battle began.
Jason Universe
While Friday the 13th: The Game is only a possibility at this point, many other projects from Horror Inc. are a sure thing. This includes the upcoming A24 TV series Crystal Lake, Jason continuing to be a playable character in MultiVersus, and the newly created Jason Universe website. With all this effort being revitalized around Jason, it also stokes anticipation that maybe we could see a new movie soon as well.
More News To Come
For now, it is unfortunately mostly just a lot of hype about all the possibilities that have become available following the lawsuit being settled. However, one great way for Horror Inc. to get people talking about Jason again would be to give the fans what they want and make the revamp of Friday the 13th: The Game happen.
