With the closeout of Marvel’s Phase 4 just around the corner with The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special and the opening of Phase 5 with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania kicking it all off in February, many MCU fans are beginning to look to the upcoming years with anticipation. One of the most beloved Phase 4 additions was that of Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova, the kid sister of Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff. And, now that Variety has revealed that Florence Pugh and Marvel have cut a deal that will see the star tackling two new movies as the heroine, fans are left to speculate as to whether the character will be receiving her very own feature-length spinoff.
The rumor was sparked after it was revealed that Florence Pugh signed off on an eight-figure paycheck with Marvel for her next two takes on Yelena Belova. While we know for certain that she’ll be appearing in 2024’s Thunderbolts, there hasn’t been as much as a peep surrounding the other project the Black Widow and Hawkeye hero will appear in. But, as with any good MCU-based revelation – there are rumors.
Perhaps Florence Pugh could be reclaiming her Marvel character as part of a bigger role in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty or even Avengers: Secret Wars. With so many big-name celebs packed into these features though, it’s not likely that such a huge paycheck would be coming from her involvement in the productions – unless Yelena Belova were to be a more featured leader of the squad this time around.
And then there’s the possibility that she may have signed on for the Scarlett Johansson-produced MCU movie that has yet to reveal many details – although the rumor mill is now churning as to whether Pugh’s Belova could be the main cast member for that story.
Whatever the case may be, Florence Pugh has been adding her name to a number of Hollywood contracts both with Marvel and those outside of it, having recently appeared in Olivia Wilde’s drama-heavy Don’t Worry Darling and Netflix’s drama, The Wonder, which lands on the streamer next month. Before she again dons the uniform of Yelena Belova on the sets of Marvel Studios, she’ll appear in a slew of other productions including Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, A Good Person, Oppenheimer, and Dune: Part Two. With many of these arrivals being the most talked about ones in recent years, it’s clear that Pugh’s striving to rake in the big bucks and continue to draw in Academy Award nominations.
And for Yelena Belova and the rest of the gang of the Avengers, Phase 5 is looking great. Along with the previously mentioned Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, we’ve got a long list of films to look forward to including the third and final installment in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, The Marvels, Captain America: New World Order, Thunderbolts, and the recently delayed Blade. On the television side of possibilities in which Florence Pugh could surprise us with a Marvel-centered cameo is Secret Invasion, Echo, Loki Season 2, Ironheart, Agatha: Coven of Chaos, and Daredevil: Born Again – let the good times roll!
