Josh Hutcherson Dying To Get Fan-Favorite Sequel Made
Josh Hutcherson says Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is in the works. The actor recently revealed that the biggest development priority is figuring out what Mike Schmidt’s next steps should be. “We’re all patiently waiting. I mean, look, I think that they have a lot to figure out as far as where to take the story because there’s a lot of options based on the various formats of the game and story and lore,” he said.

“So, I think they’re kind of trying to nail down exactly which avenue they’re gonna proceed down, and then we’ll get to shooting.” If everything goes to plan, Hutcherson believes that Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 could begin production in late 2024. “Based on where the strike was and everything last year, things were really slowing down,” he explained.
Lots Of Interest In Sequel
“Now it’s kind of picking back up again, so I’m excited to get some stuff lined up. But as of now, I’m just looking forward to [Five Nights at Freddy’s 2] at some point this year, hopefully,” Hutcherson added.
Emma Tammi, the director behind Five Nights at Freddy’s, has also expressed interest in returning for the sequel.
“We’re all, including me, very excited to keep making movies in this universe if we’re lucky enough to do so and this first one does well,” Tammi said about Five Nights at Freddy’s 2. “
We have some loose ends that I think are going to have to come back in a sequel to be tied up.” Five Nights at Freddy’s brought the iconic video game series to the big screen, taking audiences to the abandoned Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza.
Josh Hutcherson’s Role
The story follows Mike Schmidt (Josh Hutcherson), a newly hired night guard at the infamous Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, who discovers that the animatronic mascots are vessels for the vengeful spirits of murdered children.
Blended with family drama, eerie dreams, and a dark history, Mike not only battles for survival but also for the safety of his younger sister, Abby (Piper Rubio).
Five Nights at Freddy’s Mixed Reviews
While Five Nights at Freddy’s received mixed reviews from critics, the audience’s response was more favorable. The film was a commercial success, earning $294 million at the global box office, leading to Five Nights at Freddy’s 2.
Meanwhile, the general consensus on Rotten Tomatoes acknowledged the film’s appeal to video game, but criticized its muddled narrative and lack of scares.
The Original Release
Universal Pictures strategically released Five Nights at Freddy’s in theaters and on the Peacock streaming platform. The film’s marketing extended beyond traditional channels, with animatronics displayed at Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights and a pop-up location in Los Angeles resembling Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza.
While the plot for Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 hasn’t been officially confirmed, its predecessor left several loose ends for the team to revisit.
Although the animatronics successfully vanquished serial killer William Afton (Matthew Lillard), the movie hinted at the possibility of his survival. Mike also discovered the identity of his younger brother’s murderer from years prior.
Diving Deeper Into The Story
With the spectral children of this universe communicating with him through dreams and visions, it remains uncertain whether Mike will eventually be reunited with Garrett (Lucas Grant) in Five Nights at Freddy’s 2.
Matthew Lillard previously shared his thoughts about Five Nights at Freddy’s 2. Lillard shared his excitement about delving deeper into the story and emphasized his eagerness to collaborate with Five Nights at Freddy’s video game creator Scott Cawthon and filmmaker Emma Tammi in unraveling the aspects that fans have speculated about for years.
Five Nights at Freddy’s began as a video game where the player assumes the role of a night security guard at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. The objective is to survive five nights by monitoring security cameras and conserving limited resources. The game is known for its creepy atmosphere and jump scares, with animatronic characters coming to life at night.
