We Finally Have Our First Look At Loki Season 2
Loki season 2 gets a few seconds during the Disney+ 2023 preview trailer, but it shows Loki and Moebius interacting, promising more of what fans loved from the first season.
When Loki first debuted on Disney+, no one knew just how important the series would wind up becoming for the current phase of MCU movies. Audiences have learned the importance of the Time Variance Authority (TVA), The Sacred Timeline, and the real nature of He Who Remains, making any tease of the upcoming second season exciting. Variety shared the recent Disney+ 2023 preview, which includes the first look at Loki, Moebius, Loki, and Loki in season 2.
The first Loki season 2 clip can be seen starting at the 20 second mark of the video, also narrated by Tom Hiddleston, the God of Mischief himself. While short, we get to see a clearly exasperated Moebius (Owen Wilson) telling a dressed-up Loki, and his two clones, that he may be “going a little too over the top”. Though if the first season taught us anything, those could just be more Loki variants.
Season 1 ended with Moebius seemingly unaware of who Loki, was after the Asgardian and his female variant, Lady Loki played by Sophia Di Martino broke The Sacred Timeline. In the closing shots of the season finale, the TVA had undergone a drastic makeover with statues of He Who Remains, who we know now was a variant of Kang the Conqueror, played by Jonathan Majors, rising over the time-travel beauacracy. That fateful stabbing at the end of season 1, may end up dooming the Marvel Universe, while season 2 may directly cause The Secret War multiverse cross-over.
Loki season 1 was a massive success for Disney, following up the groundbreaking Wandavision and the perfectly average Falcon and the Winter Soldier, with the banter between Hiddleston and Wilson’s characters a highlight of each episode. The jet-ski loving Agent Moebius was Owen Wilson’s first appearance in the MCU, and his buttoned up straight man provided the perfect comedic foil for Hiddleston’s chaotic Trickster God. The season 2 tease is only a few seconds long, but it confirms we get more of the best pairing in the MCU.
Other returning characters in Loki season 2 include Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Ravonna Renslayer, the head of the TVA, Eugene Cordero as HunterK-5E, and Tara Strong as the voice of Miss Minutes, the deceptively evil animated TVA guide. Confirmed to be joining the show are Ke Huay Quan, known for Everything Everywhere All At Once and The Temple of Doom, as a TVA archivist, while Rafeal Casal (Blindspotting) and Kate Dickie (The Green Knight) will take part in undisclosed roles. Also likely, though again unconfirmed, is Tom Hiddleston continuing to steal scenes as other Loki variants.
Loki season 2 will air during 2023, while the exact release is unknown, it can be safely assumed to debut after Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantomania hits theaters in February. Kang is making his big debut as the Big Bad for Marvel’s Phase 5 in that movie, which makes it likely that Loki will pick up wherever Quantomania leaves off. Season 1 was a pleasant surprise, but after a series of movies and streaming shows that have not advanced any overarching plot for this latest phase, the pressure is on Loki season 2 to meet lofty fan expectations, hopefully providing a blueprint for a bigger and better Phase 6 in the process.
