See The First Look At Charlie Cox In Daredevil: Born Again
Charlie Cox was spotted as Matt Murdock in production for Daredevil: Born Again.
It’s been almost five years since Charlie Cox appeared in the now-defunct Netflix Daredevil TV series, but it’s still the role that the Stardust and The Theory of Everything actor is best known for. He returned to the role in Spider-Man: No Way Home and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, but we fans are still eagerly awaiting his return to a starring role in the upcoming Disney+ Series Daredevil: Born Again. Now, a Twitter photo of Cox dressed as Matt Murdock, Daredevil’s civilian identity, has given us our first peek at the production of the upcoming series.
The original Daredevil series ended on something of a cliffhanger, with Wilson Fisk making a deal with the FBI to take down Daredevil and with Dex getting surgery that appears to have induced his transformation into the supervillain Bullseye. However, it’s unclear whether the new series will follow up on any of these unresolved plot threads, as Charlie Cox has implied that the series will be much different that the original, focusing more on Matt Murdoch‘s cases as a lawyer than on his super-heroics.
We do know that Men in Black actor Vincent D’Onofrio will return to his role as Wilson Fisk, while his spouse Vanessa will now be played by Better Call Saul actress Sandrine Holt. However, so far there’s no word on whether Wilson Bethel will once again play Dex in Daredevil: Born Again. It’s also not clear whether Elden Henson will return as Foggy Nelson, who serves as Matt Murdock’s law partner and confidant, nor whether Deborah Ann Woll will return as Karen Page.
Charlie Cox made it clear that Daredevil: Born Again should not be considered season 4 of the original Daredevil season — rather saying that it will be Season 1 of a whole new thing. While this could just be a reference to the new series’ changed tone, it could also imply that the original series is not canon.
Before Daredevil: Born Again comes out, fans of the character will be able to get a glimpse of him in Echo, the spin-off series to Hawkeye. Staring Alaqua Cox, the series will follow Maya Lopez following the events of Hawkeye, in which she attempted to hunt down and kill Clint Barton for his role in killing her father. While the role that Daredevil will play in the series has not been revealed, presumably he will help Maya against Kingpin, who she turned against at the end of the series.
The first season of Echo was planned to come out in late 2023, but rumors of major Marvel delays mean that it might not appear this year. Daredevil: Born Again may also suffer similar delays, meaning that its Spring 2024 release date might not come to pass.
Regardless of when it comes, or what form it takes, Daredevil: Born Again will mean a welcome return of Charlie Cox and his character for fans who have been left without their Daredevil fix for so long.
