Fire Country Spinoff With Supernatural Star On The Way
The third season of the wildly popular CBS (and now, Netflix) series Fire Country will include a guest appearance by Supernatural star Jared Padalecki. In his three-episode story arc, he will portray a SoCal firefighter who doesn’t mind bending the rules and develops an instant respect for Bode (Max Thieriot). The story arc might be a set-up for a spinoff series following Camden, Jared Padalecki’s character.
Fire Country Is A Hit For CBS
Fire Country follows the main character, Bode Donovan, as he agrees to join the convict unit of California wildland firefighters in the hopes of being granted parole after receiving his first denial from the parole board. He soon discovers that his fire camp will be closer to home than he expected, and his duties lead him on a journey of reckoning with his past, reconnecting with family and friends, and proving himself as a changed man. Jared Padalecki is set to join the series for a recurring guest role in season three of Fire Country as a NorCal firefighter.
A Backdoor Pilot?
The current deal for Padalecki is only for the episodes of Fire Country, but with his experience as a two-time star of a hit series, it’s easy to see his character developing a series of his own. Since CBS has already ordered a spinoff series titled Sheriff Country for the 2025-2026 season, we know they’re already aiming to make Fire Country a franchise.
With Fire Country drawing around 9 million viewers weekly and becoming the most watched series of the 2022-2023 season, and CBS looking for franchises with wide appeal, they may be looking to Jared Padalecki for a new series.
The Confirmed Spin-Off
The other Fire Country spinoff, Sheriff Country, stars Morena Baccarin as a no-nonsense sheriff in Edgewater, the small town where Fire Country takes place. The spinoff series follows the sheriff as she explores a mystery, deals with her ex-con dad, and patrols the streets of Edgewater. Since this series was launched after a special episode of Fire Country that introduced the sheriff, it seems likely that a similar set-up could be developing for Jared Padalecki’s character as well.
Padalecki And CBS
The previous success of both Supernatural, where Jared Padalecki plays Sam Winchester, a monster-hunting clairvoyant, and Walker, a modern retelling of the classic series Walker, Texas Ranger, has motivated CBS to keep Jared Padalecki on board. Once Walker was canceled by CBS for unspecified financial reasons, Padalecki was without a gig on CBS. To keep one of the most-watched stars ever on board with their network, CBS could be looking to tap him for a spinoff series following his guest role on Fire Country.
Fire Country Is Now On Netflix
CBS chose to add the first season of Fire Country, previously only available to stream through Paramount+, to Netflix on August 1. The hope is that expanding the audience for Fire Country will help CBS to launch Season 3 with an even wider appeal than the previous two seasons. If expanding their fanbase is the goal, adding Jared Padalecki to the Fire Country franchise can help boost their potential viewership with a tried and true lead.
