Final Season Of Post-Apocalyptic Anime Split Into Three Parts

By Nina Phillips | Updated

Dr. Stone is ending soon, with its last season currently in production. However, the shop isn’t going to go down quietly. The Dr. Stone final season promises to be epic and give the story the time it deserves by breaking it into three different cours.

Fans Can Breathe Easy

Before this announcement, fans were a little nervous. Though a two-part season was expected, fans weren’t sure if it was enough to cover all the material left in the story and end the series properly. Based on the previous course, the Dr. Stone final season will be broken up into three 11-—or 12-part releases, for a total of 33 or 36 episodes.

However, the exact date for the release of Dr. Stone’s final season is still up in the air. It has been confirmed for sometime in 2025, but there’s been no information on the season or date as of yet.

Dr. Stone Science Future

During the announcement of Dr. Stone’s final season, the team also released a key visual. The image features the main character at his current age and as a child, both staring up into the stars and the moon.

Dr. Stone’s final season will be the fourth in the series, titled Dr. Stone Science Future. The studio, TMS Entertainment (Fruits Basket), cast, and crew will all be the same.

A Petrified World

The story is set in a world where humans have been stuck as stone for thousands of years because of an unknown phenomenon. Senku Ishigami (Yuusuke Kobayashi) is the main protagonist and a genius.

Thankfully, he is one of the first humans to revive. After several months, he learns how to bring people back. Unfortunately, he ends up reviving someone named Tsukasa Shishio (Yuuichi Nakamura), who doesn’t care for society before everyone is turned to stone. He starts to destroy the stone people he comes across, as well as Senku.

Putting his intelligence to the test, Senku creates all sorts of modern inventions, including medicine and cell phones, while also working to rebuild civilization. However, he learns there are many more secrets he must first uncover before he can fix the world and bring everyone back.

The Best Is Yet To Come

It’s been a fairly popular show to start, with all three seasons and the special episode scoring above an 8 out of 10 on My Anime List. So far, Dr. Stone: New World Part 2 has had the highest rating, with an 8.33 out of 10. However, Dr Stone’s final season might blow it out of the water as the story comes to a close.

Get Caught Up On Crunchyroll

Dr. Stone’s final season will begin on the 143rd chapter of the Manga, shortly after The Truth of the Petrification arc and the New America City arc. This means there are about 90 chapters left to cover. This averages out to two-and-a-half chapters per episode, which is a fairly reasonable pace.

If you want to catch up on the series, Dr. Stone‘s previous three seasons and special episodes are available to watch on Crunchyroll. This is also likely where fans will find the three cours of Dr. Stone’s final season when it starts to air.
