The Fantasy Slice-of-Life Anime On Crunchyroll You Need To Watch

By Nina Phillips | Published

Some anime are made to keep your heart racing and pump you full of adrenaline, while others are meant to help you calm down and relax after a rough day. Mr. Villain’s Day Off is a slice-of-life that will make you smile and help you relax as you enjoy adorable pandas and yummy treats with the evil villain in this story.

Planning To Take Over The World

Mr. Villain’s Day Off is a cute slice-of-life anime about the general of a villain organization called Warumono-san (Shintaro Asanuma). The group is planning to take over the world and regularly fights the Rangers, a group focused on saving humanity made up of Yoiyami Black (Yuuichirou Umehara), Akatsuki Red (Hiiro Ishibashi), Shinonome Pink (Ai Kakuma), Souten Blue (Takuya Eguchi), Reimei Green Mugi (Hibiku Yamamura), and Reimei Green Sora (Hibiku Yamamura). However, even extraterrestrial evil beings and heroes with magical powers need days off to rest and recuperate.

Villains Deserve A Day Off

Mr. Villain’s Day Off focuses mostly on what the general does when he’s not trying to defeat humanity, and a lot of it is centered around enjoying himself and visiting his favorite animal—the panda. If he’s not visiting the zoo, he’s exploring the city and finding panda-themed items to try out. He even meets up and helps the rangers on occasion, so long as he’s not working.

A Low-Key Series

It’s not quite an episodic story, but there isn’t much in the way of an overarching plot. You meet the rangers and the villain, and you have fun watching how these people spend their days off.

The story was originally a manga by Yuu Morikawa. In January 2024, Shin-Ei Animation (Teasing Master Takagi-san) and Synergy SP (Cross Game) collaborated to release the anime adaptation of Mr. Villain’s Day Off with Yoshinori Odaka (Akudama Drive) directing.

Slice-Of-Life

The show is cute and simple, making it the perfect slice-of-life to watch if that’s what you want. Mr. Villain’s Day Off isn’t a show for everyone, as it comes across as rather slow for those wanting a more action-heavy story.

On My Anime List, the show has a 7.26 out of 10 for its average viewer score. Personally, I would have to say Mr. Villain’s Day Off was an alright anime. It was cute and had some interesting parts, but it didn’t do anything to make it stand out to me, even as a slice-of-life.

Escape Reality For A Little Bit

REVIEW SCORE

I’m not upset I watched it, but I don’t think I’d go out of my way to recommend the series or watch it again. Mr. Villain’s Day Off worked as a default show, though, when I wasn’t sure what else I wanted to watch. But if you’re looking to escape from reality and turn off your brain after a hard day of work, this is a great show to put on.

If you want to watch Mr. Villain’s Day Off on your next day off, it’s available on Crunchyroll for premium members. Currently, there’s only one season available, but the twelve episodes are still enough to take your mind off the more stressful moments of your life.
