Fans of the Fantastic Four are waiting on pins and needles to learn more about the upcoming entry to the MCU. Marvel’s First Family has long struggled with its on-screen adaptations, often being critically panned. Their troubles continued when Spider-Man: No Way Home director Jon Watts exited the project to remove himself from the superhero game. But according to a source on the definitely not-reputable (and definitely not safe for work) image board and forum 4chan, he will be replaced by Bryce Dallas Howard.

Take this rumor with an entire hourglass of salt, as 4chan is completely anonymous, meaning that Kevin Feige himself could have posted this tidbit (pretty doubtful) or some random 12-year-old who was bored and wanted to stir the pot a little. With that being said, it’s not the most far-fetched rumor out there. Bryce Dallas Howard has already directed for Disney multiple times for episodes of The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. So not only does she have the chops, she’s already an in-house and trusted name. Putting a big feature like Fantastic Four in the hands of someone who has already worked with the company seems like a safer bet than an outside hire.

The rumor doesn’t stop with appointing Bryce Dallas Howard as the director of the Fantastic Four movie. It also posits that she’ll be starring as Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman. The rumor also says that John Krasinski will be appearing as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic and that he has opted to executive produce the project instead of direct. Krasinski was another fan-favorite pick for director, so this wouldn’t be too surprising.

Although this rumor is on 4chan, it’s not an unheard-of idea. Sometimes these rumors swirl for good reason because they’re an obvious or likely outcome. Marvel fans are some of the best at guessing what will happen with their favorite franchise and Kevin Feige and co. are also very good at listening to what the fans want. This directing and casting rumor seems like a dream come true for Fantastic Four fans, so there’s always the possibility that it will come to fruition.

There is no release date set for Fantastic Four yet, but they’ll undoubtedly want to get their cast and crew in order sooner than later. You definitely don’t want your big-budget blockbuster to be missing a director when it comes time to start production. Whether or not this rumor is true, it likely won’t be long before Marvel announces an official replacement. After that, fans will just have to wait for the official casting announcements. While the rumors for John Krasinski will likely pan out, it’s still a mystery who will be cast as the Invisible Woman, the Human Torch, and the Thing.

Fortunately, Marvel will keep fans plenty occupied until Fantastic Four is released. You can see Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in theaters right now. Moon Knight just released its season finale, so you can stream it in its entirety on Disney+. On June 8, Ms. Marvel will be hitting Disney+ as well. Then, we’ll get the next big blockbuster with Thor: Love and Thunder in July.
