Many actors would jump at the chance to join the MCU, but Paul Walter Hauser had a pretty good reason for being initially hesitant to sign on for the upcoming Fantastic Four. Hauser said that the previous poorly-received attempts to bring Marvel’s First Family to the screen gave him some pause. Hauser explained, “Don’t think that didn’t weigh in as I was deciding whether or not to take the job,” adding, “That movie has not fully been nailed just yet.”

Paul Walter Hauser Is The Most Relatable Man In Hollywood Right Now

Many fans would agree, but Paul Walter Hauser also gave some reassurance, which will undoubtedly add to the hype for Fantastic Four. Hauser gave some detail on his decision to sign on to the project, saying, “But I really do think the combination of the screenplay, and the department heads that are working on the film, and that classy cast of really exciting actors — some of them known for a long time, and some of them having a moment right now — [make me feel that] this movie is special, and it was something I wanted to be a part of.”

Marvel’s All-Star Fantastic Four

Fans are understandably wary about the MCU finally nailing these fan-favorite characters, but the fact Hauser acknowledged the previous failures gives us some hope that this movie might get it right. It also helps that Hauser’s comments about the cast are spot on, as people have praised Marvel’s decision to cast Pedro Pascal as Mr. Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn as Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing.

Admittedly, Paul Walter Hauser’s upcoming Fantastic Four is better than previous iterations and isn’t the highest bar to cross. The 1994 Roger Corman-produced film was never released, and then the team got their first big-screen adaptation with the 2005 movie directed by Tim Story that starred Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans, and Michael Chiklis. The film did okay at the box office, but it wasn’t well-received, especially by fans of the comics.

The Role Of The Human Torch Leading To A Better Movie Continues

The box office returns on the first movie were enough to get the film a sequel with Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, which was an even bigger disappointment than the first. Perhaps the worst of the bunch was the 2015 reboot that starred Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B Jordan, and Jamie Bell. That movie ended up being a critical and commercial flop, and now we’re finally getting another film a decade later.

Even The Supporting Cast Is Amazing

Paul Walter Hauser’s casting in Fantastic Four, along with the perfect casting of the titular team, has earned Marvel a lot of goodwill so far from fans. That goodwill only increased when John Malkovich and Natasha Lyonne were added to the cast in undisclosed roles. And hype went to an all-time high when Julia Garner was announced as Silver Surfer and Ralph Ineson was announced as

Marvel also has their only blockbuster for 2024, Deadpool & Wolverine, coming out this July. The trailers have been great so far, and it seems like this film will be the gateway to officially introducing the X-Men to the MCU. After a rough couple of years, films like Deadpool & Wolverine and the Paul Walter Hauser-featuring Fantastic Four might be able to get the once-mighty MCU back on track.

There are a lot of fan-favorite Marvel characters getting their first chance to shine in the MCU, and everyone is really hoping Marvel can pull it off. While a strong cast with Paul Walter Hauser and the rest of the Fantastic Four cast is promising, it won’t matter if the script is weak. We’ll just have to wait and see when the film comes out in July 2025.
