Fantastic Four Galactus Cast And It’s The Perfect Actor
Casting rumors for the upcoming Fantastic Four film have been swirling for years, ever since Disney first officially purchased the rights to the iconic Marvel characters in their 2019 acquisition of 21st Century Fox. The long-awaited film, which will be the first outing of these beloved characters within the MCU, recently confirmed casting for its core four characters, pleasing fans far and wide. Now, per an exclusive write-up in The Hollywood Reporter, prolific character actor Ralph Ineson has been cast as the antagonist Galactus.
British Character Actor Ralph Ineson
Ralph Ineson is the perfect actor to bring Galactus to life, as his gravely voice, menacing presence, and powerful gravitas lend themselves perfectly to the planet-consuming cosmic entity. Galactus was previously represented on film in the critically-panned 2007 movie Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, though his depiction as a world-eating CGI cloud of vapor was highly frustrating to many Marvel superfans. The character has also been portrayed via voiceover by Tony Jay, George Takei, and Futurama‘s John DiMaggio.
You Know The Face, Now Know The Name
Before Ralph Ineson was cast as Galactus, his biggest credits included multiple front-and-center placements in projects such as The Witch, Game of Thrones, and the Harry Potter film franchise. The British actor has always been a revered screen performer, though his ability to become lost in a role has made him a poor candidate for household name status. Now that he’s landed such a highly coveted role in a massive franchise, perhaps fans far and wide will be championing his work as a leading man for years to come.
Marvel’s Fantastic Four
Before it was announced that Ralph Ineson would be taking on the role of Galactus, the titular Fantastic Four team was cast as Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and The Bear‘s Ebon Moss-Bachrach. The first wave of casting was officially announced in February 2024 in the form of a Marvel-themed Valentine’s Day card sporting the faces of the aforementioned stars. Julia Garner was announced to portray the Silver Surfer shortly thereafter, with John Malkovich and I Think You Should Leave‘s Paul Walter Hauser also cast in unknown roles.
Galactus Could Be The Next Thanos
Casting for the Fantastic Four film is expected to be fully completed within the next few weeks, as production is on pace to begin shooting over the course of the Summer. WandaVision‘s Matt Shakman will serve as the director of the feature film, with screenplay credits attributed to Eric Pearson, Josh Friedman, Jeff Kaplan, and Ian Springer. Currently, it remains unclear if Ralph Ineson’s Galactus will be the primary antagonist of the film, or if the role will build behind the scenes for multiple outings like Josh Brolin’s Thanos.
An Uphill Battle For Marvel’s First Family
Either way, fans are excited to see what Shakman and company cook up, as previous Fantastic Four films have famously all been duds. The most recent stab at the IP came in the form of 2015’s Fant4stic, which touts an abysmal 9 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. With Ralph Ineson joining the cast as Galactus, it seems that the hiring crew at Disney have made yet another excellent decision, paving the way for success with the long-awaited feature.
