Twitter is in an uproar once again, and this time it’s over Marvel Studio’s decision to omit Chloe Bennet’s Daisy Johnson character, better known as Quake, from the upcoming Secret Invasion series starring Sam Jackson. And the fandom is real; there have even been threats to cancel Disney+ subscriptions over the lack of Daisy’s presence in the trailer that came out on April 2, 2023. While we’re still holding out hope that we’ll see Nick Fury’s (Sam Jackson) most trusted advisor at least make a cameo, the trailer doesn’t lead us to believe so.

Make no mistake, Chloe Bennet has gone on record in 2021 stating that she will not be a part of the upcoming Sam Jackson series, and she really didn’t parse her words in a way that is open for interpretation. Bennet stated that “I have avoided saying anything like this in general, on social media or whatever, because I thought maybe it would blow over, but it has not. I am in no way attached or involved, even at all or a little bit, in the Secret Invasion Marvel thing.

She even went on to say that the only reason she came out publicly about not starring alongside Sam Jackson, or even being involved in the project, was because she was not only being harassed online by fans, but she was getting bothered in public while shopping at Target. So it should be no surprise that we won’t see the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. star in the upcoming Secret Invasion series. Though, a lot could have happened behind the scenes since Bennet made her original statement, which is why fans are expressing their disappointment on Twitter.

And to say that fans of Marvel’s S.H.I.E.L.D. are disappointed would be a massive understatement. Twitter user @grandeschisms stated that “quake fans have got to be crying we got nothing from that secret invasion tease.” She’s right to express this sentiment, because Sam Jackson’s Nick Fury shares the same “Level 10” security clearance as Daisy Johnson in S.H.I.E.L.D., which makes us wonder why she didn’t at least make a cameo in the trailer.

Weighing in on the absence of Quake, user @captainbigbands said “I am in dire need of Daisy showing up. Quake is my too good of a character and important character in the secret invasion story line for her to not show up, I’m also biased because I love #AgentsofSHIELD.”

And many people feel this way. Not only did Chloe Bennet have excellent chemistry with Sam Jackson in the series, her evolution from Daisy, to Quake, and finally Skye was crucial to the storytelling, and we’re hoping that she’ll at least make an appearance at some point in Secret Invasion. Though we might be wasting time and oxygen by holding our breath.

On one hand, we’re disappointed that we won’t see Chloe Bennet starring alongside Sam Jackson in Secret Invasion. On the other hand, we shouldn’t be surprised either. Though many could have speculated that Bennet made her statement because she signed an NDA, and had to remain tight-lipped about any participation in the upcoming series at the time, her absence in the trailer all but confirms that we won’t be graced with Daisy’s presence.

But who are we to say? Maybe we’ll see some incarnation of Daisy’s character in the new Sam Jackson series, and Marvel simply wants to surprise us. Could this be a publicity stunt, or has Chloe Bennet moved on to other projects?

We’re unfortunately assuming the latter, because her Wikipedia page doesn’t show her to be working on the project in any capacity, unlike Sam Jackson’s page, which has him listed as Nick Fury.

Secret Invasion is a Marvel spy thriller starring Sam Jackson as Nick Fury, and will debut on Disney+ on June 21, 2023. Unfortunately for Twitter user @gomesmiguel4, it looks like he will be canceling his subscription based on what we know at the time.
