A Fan-Favorite Star Wars Villain Coming To The Acolyte?
The Acolyte is rumored to be bringing Darth Plagueis, who is one of the biggest fan-favorite villains.
Star Wars fans are eagerly waiting for The Acolyte to premiere, mostly because this new series is going to be far removed from the Skywalker Saga that has been the main plot period for most of the properties that have come out in the franchise. In fact, The Acolyte is said to take place some 100 years before the events of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. Because of the time frame, and a new leak that has come out, rumors are that a fan-favorite villain will be making his debut in the new series. That villain is none other than Darth Palgueis. Plagueis has been mentioned before, as Senator Palpatine uses the story of Plagueis the Wise to convince Anakin that people can be brought back from the dead. However, the villain has not yet been introduced in a live-action or animated format.
Darth Plagueis is a legendary Sith Lord who had the ability to transfer his life into another person, using them as a vessel. He would be able to transfer his consciousness and life force to anyone else he pleased. This led many fan theories about Snoke when the sequel trilogy was announced, as he was so easily killed that many wondered if that was just another version of Plagueis. Another theory is that Palgueis has been The Emperor all along. Though Palpatine allegedly killed Plagueis in his sleep, many believe that Palgueis transferred himself into the body of Palpatine. However, we won’t know how true that is unless he is to appear in The Acolyte. The story goes that Palpatine killed Plagueis in his sleep, as is the Sith custom. To succeed the lord above, you must kill them. This “Rule of Two” was followed deeply by many Sith Masters and their apprentices. Should Darth Palgueis appear in The Acolyte, there might be more explanation on where he had gone after being “killed”, assuming his transference power truly worked.
There is rich lore that goes back thousands of years in the Star Wars universe, so it is great that another series is going to be tackling another period that has not yet been shown in a show or film. The Acolyte is meant to show a girl who is seemingly taught to join the Acolytes via a Sith Master. This master is rumored to be Darth Plagueis. Again, this is just a rumor currently, but sometimes leaks turn out to be true. Disney and Star Wars by extension are quite good at keeping their secrets unknown to the world until the property premieres, but sometimes internet sleuths cannot be stopped. Think about when Luke Skywalker appeared in The Mandalorian. Nobody had any idea that was going to happen. Bringing in Darth Palgueis would match that same level of excitement from seeing Luke.
The Acolyte is set to debut on Disney+ in August of 2023. We still have a year to wait until this new Star Wars story is going to debut, but we can all hope to see Darth Plagueis appear in some manner. The Old Republic era of continuity is something that fans have been begging for, which could be where the franchise heads next.
