Amazon’s Fallout series continues to be a massive hit for the Prime Video streaming service. According to Amazon, the show has 65 million viewers in the first 16 days of it being available, making it the second most-watched title on the platform and the most-watched title since The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power in 2022. The show dropped its full season on April 10 and has been getting rave reviews since.

At The Top Of A Key Demographic

Amazon also reported that Fallout is the streaming platform’s most-watched show ever amongst adults 18-34, with 60 percent of the viewers coming from outside the US in countries like the UK, France, Brazil, and more. As Variety points out, Amazon doesn’t disclose how it counts viewers, so it’s unclear how it came to these numbers. It could be viewers based on a single episode, multiple episodes, an entire season, or a certain amount of viewing time.

A Runaway Hit

In any case, it seems Amazon is plenty happy with Fallout’s performance, regardless of how it counts viewers. The show has also been immensely beloved by critics, audiences, fans of the video games, and those who are entirely new to the franchise. Amazon clearly has a real runaway hit on its hands.

Season 2

This is why it wasn’t surprising when Amazon decided to renew Fallout for a second season already. The series is based on the video game franchise of the same name, which takes place in a chaotic and retro-futuristic post-apocalypse populated by irradiated creatures, raiders, various factions, and humans trying to survive. The new Amazon show introduces us to this world through the eyes of an optimistic vault dweller – a citizen who lives in a luxurious and relatively safe fallout shelter known as a “vault” who is forced to head out into the wasteland.

Cast And Crew

Ella Purnell stars in Fallout along with Walton Goggins, Aaron Moten, Kyle MacLachlan, Moises Arias, Sarita Choudhury, Michael Emerson, Leslie Uggams, Frances Turner, Dave Register, Zach Cherry, Johnny Pemberton, Rodrigo Luzzi, Annabel O’Hagan, and Xelia Mendes-Jones. The series is created and executive produced by Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner, who also serve as co-showrunners.

Fallout is also executive produced by Jonathan Nolan, Lisa Joy, and Athena Wickham for Kilter Films, while Todd Howard executive produces for Bethesda Game Studios, and James Altman executive produces for Bethesda Softworks. The success of the series could see Amazon pouring a lot of money into more video game adaptations in the future, namely its upcoming God of War adaptation. God of War has a massive built-in audience much like Fallout, so it’s possible that video game adaptations could be Prime Video’s new hitmakers.

Fallout 4

In the meantime, the Fallout franchise is getting a boost outside of just the critically acclaimed TV series. The Fallout 4 video game from 2015 recently launched a next-gen update, though the update is off to a bit of a rocky start. Regardless, it’s a good time to be a video game fan, as it seems like studios are increasingly willing to put a lot of money into video game adaptations that actually turn out to be good.
