Update: Zachary Levi did not appear in The Flash.

While the Marvel Cinematic Universe is about to release one of its biggest productions to date, calling back characters and actors from previous iterations, it’s easy to forget that DC has something very similar planned in the near future. That’s going to be The Flash movie which will have the titular character speeding through the franchise’s own version of the Multiverse. There are some big names we already know are making returns and now we can count in another. Giant Freakin Robot has the exclusive from our trusted and proven source that Zachary Levi will be making an appearance as Shazam in the film. This flick is shaping up to be one of the biggest the studio has ever offered.

There are no other firm details at the moment on exactly how or why Zachary Levi will show up in The Flash as Shazam. There’s some chance he’s a major part of the action or it could just be a cameo for a movie that’s already bringing back some major players. So far, Levi has appeared only in his title movie Shazam! within the DC Extended Universe. By all accounts, this will be his second time on-screen in the role. It’s an exciting prospect and considering the oddball nature of Ezra Miller’s The Flash, adding Billy Batson/ Shazam into the mix makes sense from a tone and comedic perspective. He’s much more in line with the comedic sensibilities of the main character than we saw within the frame of the original Justice League.

Adding Zachary Levi to the cast would be just another major move for The Flash which is shaping up to be the kind of franchise crossover bonanza we are set to see in the upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. For starters, we already know that Ben Affleck is set to reprise his role as Bruce Wayne/ Batman in the movie. There are some rumors that this will be the end of the line for him at DC as the character. But if it is, it could be sharing the screen with the other major addition to The Flash cast. That’s because Michael Keaton is set to reprise his version of Bruce Wayne/ Batman from the *original* big-screen version we saw in the late 80s. From early looks, we are getting a full callback here with a return to the first Batcave and a re-unveiling of his version of the Batmobile.

As for Zachary Levi, if he were to appear in The Flash, it would only be building up for the next time he takes the screen as the character in his own franchise. Shazam! Fury of the Gods is due out in the summer of 2023 and will be a sequel to the somewhat surprising hit Shazam! That film earned almost $370 million dollars at the box office on its roughly $100 million budget. And it also hit with critics, scoring 90% on Rotten Tomatoes, making it one of the most well-received DC Extended Universe films.

We still have some time before we can catch Ezra Miller, Ben Affleck, Michael Keaton, and, presumably, Zachary Levin in The Flash. The flick isn’t set to hit the big screen until November 4, 2022.
