Exclusive: Stargate Movie Will Premiere On Amazon Prime
Amazon Prime Video is becoming the best of the streaming apps, and it has proven that by overtaking the #1 spot in subscriber count from Netflix recently, which could be because of the content that Amazon has been providing. To add to its elevated content, we can report through our trusted and proven sources, that the new Stargate movie is going to exclusively stream on Amazon Prime Video. This is huge news, considering fans of the Stargate universe have been waiting for a new movie or series for quite some time.
The Stargate movie landing on Amazon Prime Video is also huge for the streaming app’s numbers, as it reportedly brought in a wave of new customers from having The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power series on the app. Amazon is quite secretive with its data, but the company has stated that it had some 200 million subscribers last year, and around 100 million of those subscribers tuned in to see the LotR series. While that number might seem farfetched, it could be true, especially with the streaming app now taking over the #1 spot from Netflix.
It makes complete sense for this new Stargate movie to be streamed on Amazon Prime Video, as Amazon acquired Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, aka MGM, last year. MGM has long owned the rights to the Stargate franchise and since Amazon now owns that media company, it also owns the Stargate franchise. As it stands currently, Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, and Stargate Universe are all available to stream on Amazon, along with the original movie, Stargate: Continuum, Stargate: The Ark of Truth, and Stargate Origins: Catherine.
It appears that the Stargate franchise has found its home exclusively on Amazon, though Hulu also houses the entire Stargate Atlantis series. We are not sure if Amazon can or will take the series away from Hulu in the future, but with the movie coming out, Amazon might not want to play nice with Hulu any longer. Amazon keeping itself as the hub for Stargate exclusively would also mean that its subscriber count could go up once again.
There have been rumblings of a new Stargate series being produced, though that series has long been delayed because of covid restrictions and the sale of the franchise to MGM likely made things far more complicated. The good news is this report indicates that at least a Stargate movie is being worked on, which will land on Amazon Prime Video. We are not sure what era this new movie is going to be placed in, but it would be amazing if actors like James Spader and Kurt Russell are brought back.
The new Stargate movie on Amazon could also introduce the world to an entirely new cast and era, which would be amazing as well. The Stargate franchise has been in limbo for quite some but still holds a massive audience behind it. A new story could reintroduce the world back into the science fiction juggernaut, and bring in a whole new wave of fans, which the franchise needs.
