It didn’t take too long for Disney+ to start accepting more mature content on the platform. Despite parents being upset about the changes, the first programs to be added were the Marvel Netflix shows like Daredevil, Luke Cage, and The Punisher. This led to stricter parental control options for the app, and content warnings placed before each of the shows. It was only a matter of time until this happened, as Disney not allowing mature content was likely stifling the Disney+ app. Well, through our trusted and proven sources, we can now report that Disney is developing two different Star Wars TV-MA shows. One is live-action and the other is animated.

Everyone has been longing for a TV-MA Star Wars property for a long time. Though most of the films always contain the PG-13 rating, we were always given more implied violence than being shown what would happen if someone did get their limbs chopped off by a lightsaber. While it may sound like we are advocating for this type of violence, we just want some more realism when it comes to the battles that take place at every turn in the Star Wars universe. It will be interesting to see how Disney approaches making a TV-MA animated series. People seem to be more ok with seeing animated violence than live action, so Disney could theoretically push the envelope more in the animated format.

Parents are likely to be upset about this change, but that is what the parental controls and content warnings are for. Disney has given permission to Lucasfilm to move forward with the TV-MA Star Wars projects, and that is exactly what is happening. We are curious to see what kind of shows the media company has planned, but we would imagine they will highlight the more severe aspects of the many wars that take place in the Star Wars continuity. Sith and Jedi are always battling one another, and even though we do see people get stabbed, it isn’t as adult as it could be. Also, this is not accounting for the battles that take place between blasters, thermal grenades, and the massive tank-like vehicles that are also used in warfare.

There are plenty of battles from the older eras to newer ones that can be targeted for these new TV-MA Star Wars shows. We would like to see an animated series more in line with Genndy Tartakovsky. He made the original Clone Wars cartoon, and it was quite fantastic. Imagine that show but with an even more mature version of General Grievous taking down Jedi. That would be something to see.

While it may be some time until we see these TV-MA Star Wars shows, we can all be happy that this adult content has been agreed upon by Disney and Lucasfilm. The two shows are said to be in the developmental stages, so we are likely not to hear any further news for some time. However, we can all start developing fan theories about which direction these shows will take.
