Exclusive: Spider-Man 4 Will Introduce Two Classic Characters
The latest Giant Freakin Robot exclusive from our trusted source has it that two classic characters will be introduced in Spider-Man 4. Frankly, it's surprising that it's taken this long.
The continued speculation and excitement around Spider-Man: No Way Home has fans constantly pining over who will (or won’t) make their appearance in the film. It’s a crazy time for the webslinger’s franchise in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We are going to see all kinds of blasts from the past in this next film. Even with that, it’s never too early to start thinking about future movies in this franchise and how things will take shape. While there are old friends (or not so much) returning in No Way Home from the villain side of things, the next movie, Spider-Man 4 will introduce some newer versions of classic characters. The latest Giant Freakin Robot exclusive from our trusted and proven source has it that Spider-Man 4 is set to introduce the MCU’s versions of both Gwen Stacy and Harry Osborn.
While it might be putting the cart before the comic book horse to start thinking about Spider-Man 4 prior to No Way Home releasing, this latest exclusive does speak to the continued franchise-building we are seeing around the character. We know that past Spider-Man villains are going to reappear in this next movie, their returns are the central aspect of the story. But in terms of some other key components and characters in the comic book world, Gwen Stacy and Harry Osborn have been noticeably absent up until now. And they won’t be in this next movie either. Apparently, that will happen in Spider-Man 4.
Spider-Man 4 will have waited longer on Gwen Stacy and Harry Osborn than other franchises. Previous movie versions of Spider-Man have had both of these characters in some form, introduced (sometimes) much earlier in each. That made sense considering how integral they’ve been in the comic book stories. In the original franchise, Harry Osborn was there from the jump, played by James Franco. He was featured in all three movies with the character arc as best friend-turned-villain being a major thread in the trilogy. Bryce Dallas Howard came along as Gwen Stacy in the third movie. Spider-Man 4 feels like an eternity considering how early they appeared before.
And then, in the Andrew Garfield-led, The Amazing Spider-Man Gwen Stacy was used as the love interest instead of Mary Jane Watson. She was played by Emma Stone in the two films before falling to her death in the second one. Harry Osborn was brought into the sequel, played by Dane DeHaan. The Green Goblin arc came into that second story. Though it was initially rumored, it doesn’t look like any of these four versions will be in Spider-Man: No Way Home. That will change in Spider-Man 4.
Currently, there is no word about who will play Gwen Stacy or Harry Osborn in Spider-Man 4. And it’s not totally clear how they will work into the story either. Presumably, they will both be from the original Tom Holland timeline and not from one of the worlds apparently opened up in No Way Home. Let’s hope that by the end of this latter film they’ve closed all of the portals, rid the universe of the Sinister Six, and can get on to giving us the other major players in Peter’s world.
This is a franchise in true flux right now considering how it looks like No Way Home will play out. All of the previous villains from the two franchises are returning to the fold. And then there is Sony’s Spider-Man Universe which has is working solo projects around Venom, Morbius, and other villains. There have been hints that it will start to overlap with this Marvel world too. After No Way Home hits theaters we are sure to start getting even more information about Spider-Man 4 and what the franchise’s future holds.
